1021-01 GSM Telephone In Myanmar By March'2000
**The date for installing the GSM cellular phones in Myanmar was finalized
by the Ministry of Telecommunications on 19th October. The installation
work of the phones will be completed by March 2000.

Arrangements are underway in Myanmar for installation of GSM phones. During
this September and this month, 24 Myanmar telecommunication engineers were
sent abroad for the training concerning GSM phone installation.

One of France's most credible telecommunications company, ALCATEL will
provide machinery for installation of GSM phones in Myanmar.

1021-02 New Business Centre For Forest Products Inaugurated
**A new twelve-storey business centre of the Forest Products Joint Venture
Corporation was inaugurated in down town Yangon on 19th October.

The new business centre is equipped with modern communication equipment for
trading.

Forest Products Joint-Venture Corporation is mainly doing wood based
industries. It has 3 big factories across Myanmar producing swan teak and
timber, parquet, and groove plank plus other molded goods.

It also established joint venture business with China's National
Construction Equipment Corporation and Yangon City Development Committee's
Myodaw Furniture Company to produce finished wood products.

1021-03 More Talks With Japan's Marubeni Corporation
**General Manager of Japan's Marubeni Corporation, Mr. Y Yano met with
Myanmar's Finance Minister in Yangon on 19th October to discuss for
increased bilateral cooperation.

Last Friday, Myanmar's Finance Minister and General Manager Mr. Hiroshi
Nozu of Marubeni Corporation discussed bilateral business matters in Yangon.

During this year, Marubeni Corporation and Myanmar's Ministry of Electrical
Power built two combined cycle power plants in Yangon.

1021-04 Coop Minister In Beijing
**Myanmar's Cooperative Minister together with the officials of Myanmar
Cooperative Ministry were in Beijing to attend the 5th International
Cooperative Alliance and Asia-Pacific Cooperative Ministers' Conference
held in Beijing from 6 to 11 of this month.

In the October 13 session of the conference, Myanmar Cooperative Minister
acted as Master of Ceremonies and presented the country report.  He pointed
out the state's assistance for the cooperative sector in Myanmar and
various types of businesses undertaken by the Myanmar's Cooperative
Ministry.

Myanmar Minister also joined the other 15 Cooperative Ministers of the
Asia-Pacific Region in meeting with Chinese Premier on 12th October.

1021-05 Collective Real Estate Sales In Yangon
**Myanmar Construction Entrepreneurs Association and Olympic company, a
leading local construction company has opened a real estate sales
office-exhibition in Yangon.  Sales will run from 18 October until 31st
December 1999.
Olympic Company and 15 other Myanmar real estate developers and home
decorators will put on display their house models and home decoration goods
at the sales office in down town Yangon.

The special real estate sales event will coincide with the forthcoming
Buddhist "End of the Lent" celebrations. Myanmar's Buddhist populace
assumes that this is the most auspicious date to start something new and
especially with regards to shifting to new homes.

1021-06 Ministry News
**Every Thursday, Myabuzz feature Ministry News.  This will tackle issues
in the preceding week (with emphasis on business and investment news) in
the various ministries in the country.
1. Myanmar's Minister for Transport met on 10th October with the visiting
President of Shandong Agricultural Industry and Commerce Group Corporation
of People Republic of China.
2. Myanmar's Ministry of Light Industry held bi-annual meeting last week.
Minister stressed the need for improving the quality of the products
produced by the factories under the ministry to substitute the foreign
imported goods. Myanmar's Light Industry Ministry is producing ceramic
goods, foodstuff, pharmaceuticals, tiles and garments.
3. A high level Myanmar Commerce Ministry delegation led by the Minister
for Commerce and other trade officials visited Bangladesh in past week, at
the invitation of the Bangladesh Government. During the Myanmar-Bangladesh
Ministerial meeting Myanmar Commerce minister and his counterpart agreed to
review Myanmar-Bangladesh trade in the area of export and import,
construction of road and bridges, selecting new items in border trade and
matters relating to entry visa for the businessmen of both countries.
