Thais warned not to cross into Burma
The National Security Council has advised Thais against crossing into
Burma,
saying their safety cannot be guaranteed.
Kachadpai Burusphat, the NSC chief, gave the warning yesterday after
inspecting border checkpoints at Ban San Tondu, in Mae Ai district, and
King
Pha Wok, in Chiang Dao.
He said that despite the closure of the border by the Burmese, people
were
still crossing through King Pha Wok, which remained open four days a
week.
Mr Kachadpai said Thais should temporarily stop crossing into Burma, or
risk
being arrested like dozens of Thai gamblers at a border casino in Burma
last
week. He said the closure could affect the planned repatriation of
Burmese
workers next month, when the November 3 deadline expires. He also
expressed
concern over problems caused by the masses of illegal migrants living
along
the border.
