YANGON, 24 Oct - The 54th Anniversary of United Nations Day was observed at
Thabin Hall of Pyithu Hluttaw building on Pyay Road at 6 pm today,attended by
Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.
First, Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt delivered an addresses. He said:
Later, the artistes of the Fine Arts Department of the Ministry of Culture
presented cultural dances-apyodaw group dance, group dances for the royal
page boys, marionette dances, duet dances, group dances of the court maidens
and group dances symbolizing the spirit office United Nations for the guests
on the occasion.

(2) Kyauktan Township Basic Education High School Nos 1 & 2 get multimedia
teaching centres, new school building
YANGON, 24 Oct - A ceremony to open multimedia teaching centres at Basic
Education High Schools in Kyauktan Township, Yangon Division, was held in
conjunction with the opening ceremony of a new school building at BEHS No 2
this morning, attended by Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-l
of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.
First, a ceremony to open the multimedia teaching centre of No 2 Basic
Education High School (Thawka School) was held in conjunction with opening
ceremony of No 2 Thawka school building was held in Kyauktan Township at 8 am
today.
Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt formally unveiled the stone inscription of the
school.
Afterwards, the Secretary-1 and party inspected the computer-aided teaching
room, the broadcasting room, the computer room, the audio-visual teaching
room, TV-aided classrooms, the library and the room for the wut association.
The Secretary-l and party then inspected the domestic science room, the
laboratory, the arts room and the music room of the school.
The Secretary-l and the ministers accepted the donations and presented
certificates of honour to the well-wishers.
Then, the Secretary-l presented prizes to outstanding students who passed the
matriculation examination for 1999.
Next, the Secretary-l signed in the visitors' book.
In his address, the Secretary-1.
The Secretary-l lauded efforts of the school board of trustees of BEHS No 2
of Kyauktan Township for upgrading the school.
Then, the Secretary-1 and party inspected the canteen of the school.
Afterwards, the Secretary1 and party grew Gangaw trees marking the opening of
Thawka-2 School Building in the compound of the school.
The Secretary-1 and party, had photos taken together with members of the
school board of trustees, the parent-teacher association, well-wishers, the
headmistress and staff and students.
A ceremony to open the multimedia teaching centre of Basic Education High
School No 1 of Kyauktan was held at that school.
The Secretary-1 and party were entertained by students with songs.
The Secretary-1 formally unveiled the signboard of the multimedia teaching
centre of the school.
Then, the Secretary- 1 presented prizes to outstanding students who passed
the 1999 matriculation examination.
Afterwards, the Secretary-1 signed in the visitors' book.
In his address, the Secretary-1 said.
In conclusion, the Secretary-1 urged teachers to nurture students to become
intellectuals and intelligentsia and called on parents and the school board
of trustees to provide assistance all the more.
Then, the Secretary-1 and party, together with members of the school board of
trustees and the parent-teacher association, well-wishers, the headmaster and
staff and students, had photos taken.

(3) Secretary-1 attends opening ceremony of Shwehmawwun Hall, sports ground
in Kyauktan
YANGON, 24 Oct - A ceremony to open the Shwehmawwun Hall and sports ground in
Kyauktan was held at the hall this afternoon, attended by Secretary-l of the
State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.
First, Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt pressed the button to unveil the
signboard of the Shwehmawwun Hall.
Then, the opening ceremony of sportsground was held.
Then, Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party went to Kyaikhmawwun Pagoda in
Kyauktan and paid homage to the Hsutaungpyi Ngasat Pagoda.
The Secretary-l made a donation for the pagoda fund.
Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party inspected arrangements for the
construction of Basic Education Primary School to the east of Kyauktan.
The Secretary-1 and party also inspected construction of a new building in
Myoma Basic Education Middle School in Kyauktan and left there in the evening.

(4) Secretary-2 attends 45th Abhidhamma Day of Aryudiga PyoUyin Sarthintaik
YANGON, 24 Oct - The 45th Abhidhamma Day was observed at Aryudiga PyoUyin
Sarthintaik at Pyinmabin in Mingaladon Township this afternoon.
Present on the occasion were Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development
Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo.
Chairman of Mingaladon, Hmawby and Hlegu Townships Pyinmabin Suddhamma
Pawarana Gana Sayadaw Bhaddanta Panadipa administered Five Precepts.
Then, Presiding Sayadaw of Ayudiga PyoUyin Sarthintaik Cula Ganthavacaka
Pandita Bhaddanta Ariyavamsa explained matters related to Abhidhamma Day and
Pawarana ceremony.
Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and party presented offertories to members of the
Sangha.
Then, the Aryudiga Sayadaw delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits.
Later, members of the Sangha from Mingaladon, Hmawby and Hlegu Townships
observed the Maha Pawarana ceremony at Thila Vithawdani Ayudiga Ordination
Hall.
Well-wishers donated pro visions to members of the Sangha.

Tawtaik Dhamma Yeiktha in Shwepyitha
YANGON, 24 Oct - Families of Tatmadaw - (Army, Navy and Air) and well-wishers
donated rice to Tawtaik Dhamma Yeiktha in Shwepyitha Township, Yangon North
District, this morning, attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and
Development Council Chief of Bureau of Special Operations Chief of Staff
(Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo.
Padana Nayaka Sayadaw of Tawtaik Dhamma Yeiktha member of the Central Working
Committee of the Sangha Agga Maha Kammathanacariya Bhaddanta Dhammasara
invested the congregation with the Nine Precepts.
The Secretary-2 and party offered provisions to the Sayadaws.
After the ceremony, the Secretary-2 and party offered 'soon' to the Sayadaws.

(6) Minister inspects development of Yangon International Airport
YANGON, 24 Oct - A meeting on greening of surrounding areas of Yangon
International Airport was held at Aung Nyunt Hall of Yangon International
Airport this morning.
It was attended by Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, Deputy
Minister for Transport, Director-General of the Directorate of Civil
Aviation, officials of the ministries concerned, Yangon Command and the
Directorate of Civil Aviation.
The minister gave instructions.
Afterwards, the minister, the deputy minister and party inspected the
aircraft repair workshop, construction of the air-control tower, the runway,
the apron and the growing of flowering plants, and gave instructions to the
officials.

(7) Spoken Japanese and French Training Courses opened in Taunggyi
YANGON, 24 Oct - A ceremony to open Spoken Japanese and French Training
Courses was held at the City Hall in Taunggyi this morning.
Present on the occasion were members of Panel of Patrons of Union Solidarity
and Development Association Chairman of Shan State Peace and Development
Council Commander of Eastern Command Maj-Gen Maung Bo and Minister for
Construction, member of the Secretariat U Khin Maung Thein, Central Executive
Committee members of USDA and, departmental officials, instructors and
trainees.
Commander Maj-Gen Maung Bo and member of the Secretariat U Khin Maung Thein
gave speeches.
Afterwards, member of the Secretariat U Khin Maung Thein presented 500
exercise books and 3,000 Tokiwa pencils to be used at the training courses
being organized by USDA to Shan State USDA Executive Committee member.

(8) CEC members of Myanmar Livestock Breeding Federation elected
YANGON, 24 Oct - The meeting on forming Myanmar Livestock Breeding Federation
of Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries was held at Diamond Jubilee Hall on
Pyay Road this morning.
Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein and Managing
Director of Livestock, Breeding and Veterinary Department gave speeches.
The Meeting Chairman announced the list of members of Executive Committee and
Central Executive Committee.
Afterwards, Minister Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein, Deputy Minister and
President of the federation accepted over K 4.56 million donated by
well-wishers.

(9) Abhidhamma Day observed at pagodas, religious centres in Yangon
YANGON, 24 Oct-Devotees, well-wishers and people crowded pagodas in Yangon
today as it was Abhidhamma Day. They came to pagodas to keep Sabbath, to
offer 'soon', flowers, lights and scented water and to make donations.
Abhidhamma Day was observed at Shwedagon Pagoda in the morning.
Similarly, Abhidhamma Day was observed at Botahtaung Pagoda this morning.
Wut associations offered fruits, flowers, water and lights to the pagoda.
At Sule Pagoda, well-wishers offered juice and provisions to members of the
Sangha. Various wut associations recited parittas to mark Abhidhamma Day.
Likewise, Abhidhamma Day ceremonies were held at Tooth Relic Pagoda (Yangon),
Maha Wizaya Pagoda, Kyaikkasan Pagoda, Hsutaungpyay Yanmyoaung Pagoda and
other pilgrimage centres in Yangon.

(10) 31 members resign from Thayetchaung Township NLD
YANGON, 24 Oct - Thirty-one members resigned from the National League for
Democracy of Thayetchaung Township, Taninthayi Division.
Thirty-one members of Thayetchaung Township NLD, Taninthayi Division, of
their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Township
Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned
on 26 August 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics
of NLD.
