(1) Secretary- 1 receives Ambassadors of PRC
YANGON, 18 Oct - Secretary-l of the State Peace
and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt received
Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to
Myanmar Mr Liang Dong and Ambassador of China to
Singapore Mrs Chen Baoliu, currently here, who
called at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence
at 4 pm today.
Also present at the call were Minister for Foreign
Affairs, Deputy Minister and Director-General of
the Protocol Department.

(2) Sale of houses apartments begins at
Olympic Tower
YANGON, 18 Oct - A ceremony to sell houses and
apartments and opening of a new office of Olympic
Company Ltd. jointly sponsored by Myanmar
Construction Entrepreneurs Association and Olympic
Company Limited was held at Olympic Tower-2 in
Ahlon this morning, attended by Secretary-l of the
State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin
Nyunt.
Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt unveiled the
signboard of the sales.
The Secretary-l and party then inspected scale
models of modem housing projects, office
buildings, apartments and low-cost housing
projects, construction and agricultural equipment,
air-conditioners, paints, tiles, modern furniture,
decorative lights, mattress and pipes on display
in the company showrooms of the tower.
As the estate sales business is flourishing again
in other countries, Myanmar construction
entrepreneurs collectively held the sale of houses
and apartments. People can buy houses at low cost
at the sale.
The sales opens from 9 am t o 4.30 pm till 31
December.

(3) Provisions donated to Sarthintaiks
in Mayangon
YANGON, 18 Oct - Tatmadaw families and
well-wishers offered provisions and donations to
Masoeyein, Seitta-thukha and Maha Mukharama
Sarthintaiks in Mayangon Township yesterday
morning, attended by Secretary-2 of the State
Peace and Development Council Chief of Bureau of
Special Operations Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen
Tin Oo.
The Secretary-2 and party received the Five
Precepts from Padana Nayaka Sayadaw Bhaddanta
Virojana of Maha Thukharama Sarthintaik.
Well-wishers also donated offertories to Sayadaws.
Later, Masoeyein Sarthintaik Sayadaw Bhaddanata
Vimala delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of
merits.

(4) Deputy Prime Minister meets Japanese
entrepreneurs
YANGON, 18 Oct - Deputy Prime Minister Lt-Gen Tin
Tun met Vice-Chairman Mr S Idemoto of All Japan
Seamen's Association, Senior Managing Director Mr
Koji Toyoda of NYK Line of Japan and Senior
Managing Director Captain Zenjiro Kikuchi of NYK
Ship Management Co Ltd and party of Japan who
called at his office this morning.
Also present at the call were officials of the
Government Office.
They discussed commercial marine and matters
concerning Myanmar seamen.

(5) 24,000 reps of mass organizations of
Upper Myanmar condemn terrorism and elements
of destruction
YANGON, 18 Oct- Over 24,000 people of various
strata of life attended the mass meeting to
condemn terrorism and destructive elements which
was held at Bahtoo Stadium of Mandalay at 7.25 am
today.
The meeting passed two motions calling for
condemnation of terrorism and destructive elements
and supporting the endeavours for peace, stability
and development of the State.
Present on the occasion were delegates of Kachin
State, Kayah State, Chin State, Sagaing Division,
Magway Division, Mandalay Division, Shan State
(South), Shan State (East) and Shan State (North),
members of Mandalay Division Union Solidarity and
Development Association, Auxiliary Fire Brigade,
Myanmar Red Cross Society, Myanmar Maternal and
Child Welfare Association, Mandalay Division
Committee for Women's Affairs, Institute of
Nursing, Myanmar Medical Association (Upper
Myan-mar), Myanmar War Veterans Organization,
Myanmar Writers and Journalists Association, staff
of Mandalay City Development Committee, workers
and service personnel of factories and
departments, merchants and entrepreneurs, Myanmar
Thabin Asiayon, Myanmar Music Asiayon, Myanmar
Traditional Artists and Artisans Asiayon, Video
and Film Entrepreneurs Association, Higher
Education Department, Basic Education Department,
All Bus Lines Control Committee and local people
from seven districts in Mandalay Division.

(6) Mid Year Gems Emporium ends
YANGON, 18 Oct - The 1999 Mid-Year Gems Emporium
concluded at the Myanma Gems Mart today, fetching
altogether over seven million US dollars.
A total of 66 pearl lots worth 289,712 US $ were
sold through competitive bidding this morning.
Jewellery and jade carvings at fixed prices worth
6,542 US $ were sold at the gems emporium.
Jade lots, jewellery, pearl and jade carvings at
fixed prices which were sold up to 18 October
amounted to 7,009,311 US $.

(7) 37 members resign from Pyay Township NLD
YANGON, 18 Oct - Thirty-seven members resigned
from the National League for Democracy of Pyay
Township, Bago Division.
Thirty-seven members of Pyay-Township NLD, Bago
Division, of their own volition, resigned by
sending letters of resignation to Township
Multiparty Democracy Genera1 Election Commission
and the party concerned on 12 October 1999 as they
no longer wished to participate in party politics
of NLD.
