Traditional Medicine Practitioners Course No 2 Opens

Traditional Medicine Practitioners Course No 2 of the
Ministry of Health opened  at traditional medicine
hall in Mandalay on 26 September, with an address by
Chairman of National Health Committee Secretary-1 of
the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin
Nyunt . The Secretary-1 said the government has laid
special emphasis on uplift of standard of Maynma
traditional medicine and promotion of health care
services by Myanma traditional medicine. The course
which promoted qualification of traditional medicine
practitioners was conducted and it was an effort to
contribute toward promotion and propagation of Myanmar
traditional medicine. He spoke on Myanmar traditional
medicine practitioners throughout  Myanmar history and
significant medical science with high potency without
any side effect, skilled physicians who can cure
strange diseases and there being plenty of medicinal
plants. He pointed out the most important quality is
that most of Myanmar people rely on traditional
medicine. Myanmar people especially in rural and
border areas mostly rely on Myanmar traditional
medicine. Reliance on Myanmar traditional medicine has
increased day after day even in major cities. The
Ministry of Health, formation of new Traditional
Medicine Department for systematic development and
arrangements on drafting of project for development of
traditional medicine in National Health Plan, opening
of traditional medicine hospitals and dispensaries,
research and production of traditional medicine
utilizing modern techniques. Arrangements are under
way for opening of Institute of Traditional Medicine
and seminars on traditional medicine were held
annually in states and divisions alternatively
beginning from 1996. Seminar of All Myanmar
Traditional Medicine physicians was held in 1997. The
course No 1 was opened in 1998 and it was attended by
122 trainee medicine practitioners. The ten-month
course is being attended by 100 traditional medicine
practitioners.
