Protest to Foreign Minister Win Aung at Asia Society
Win Aung Go Home! Win Aung Liar! Free Burma Now! Free Rachel now! Free
James Mawdsley Now! . Synchronized chanting of dissident's voice filled in
the air of busy Mahattan Street in the morning of 24th September at 8 am. A
group of dissidents carrying placards, banner emblemed with fighting
peacock, gathered at the entrance of Asia Society building at 725 Park
Avenue in New York City. Earlier, one of the leaders of dissidents: Tin Win
Thein from Civil Society of Burma, went inside the building and confronted
the person responsible for admission to the event: Win Aung's speech "
Myanmar in next Millenium" and demanded to be admitted as he had registered
on 20th of this month. A person responsible is nobody other than David
Steinberg himself. Respondent of the speech and Director of Asia Studies at
Georgetown University in Washington. Steinberg firmly denied access stating
that there was no seat available for Burmese activists though it was
registered in advance.
However, at the end of the event, one of the attendee said some of the seats
were empty in the hall which can accommodate more than fifty people.
We are making demonstration against Foreign Minister Win Aung as a protest
to Military Regime, as a protest to his speech: nonsense lies to the people
around the world covering all the truth., as a protest against jailing of
Rachel Goldwyn and James Mawdsley, and finally as a protest in support of
"Committee representing people's parliament (CRPP), says one activist who
did not want to mention his name.
If the Win Aung 's well assisted and well planned tour-speech to New York's
Asia Society is a segment of propaganda machinery and a mission of marketing
Burma for next millenium it was a disaster. Before the event started,
dissidents managed to distribute pamphlets showing records of Military
wrongdoing including gross human rights violation and arbitrary executions.
Questions directed to Foreign Minister after his speech showed that SPDC
could not make fool of the people around the world." There is no human
rights violation what so ever in Myanmar", Win Aung repeatedly says the
joke, at the same time denying any mass grave inside Burma. "One day you
might well be accountable for war crime" says academic from Columbia
University School of International Public affairs to Win Aung. "He is
smooth, very much better than his predecessor although he tries to cover
true facts", admits Assistant Dean from prestigious University. While
Foreign Minister was in full speed delivering his speech, one thing he did
not know was American public in the whole United States were informed with
true facts when National Public Radio (Pacific Radio), came on air about
Burma and briefly covered the demonstration in live.
Foreign Minister Win Aung 's mission impossible turned to mission
disgraceful when he finished the event and made his way to his limousine
surrounded by a group of smartly dressed young men seemed to be his body
guards from military intelligence. It was
Evident by watching his body language. As soon as he came out of the
building, spontaneous burst of voices from dissidents transformed him red
face minister running to his car as fast as he can. He reminds me the
marathon runner of the last Olympic.
