Assistance to be Given in Transferring Modern Technology and Expertise to
Entrepreneurs

Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Senior General Than
Shwe met entrepreneurs of Monywa Industrial Zone in Monywa, Sagaing
Division,
on 19 September. The officials concerned reported to the Senior General on
condition of industries in Sagaing Division district wise, the area of
Monywa
Industrial Zone, its industries, financial assistance to the zone and power
supply. Senior General Than Shwe said, "Eighteen industrial zones have been
set up in the entire nation with objectives- for the progress of domestic
industries to advance to an industrial nation in the future, for the nation
to stand on her own forces while reducing reliance on foreign countries to
utmost possible degree and to set up import-substitute industries. The
government is laying down essential foundations for the nation to become an
industrialized one; gradual advancement of private industries from
blacksmith
level is important; efforts are required to set up modern factories
zone-wise; as the industrialists may have some difficulties in doing so, the
government will render assistance to them. As capital, modern technology and
raw materials are required in setting up private industries, so also the
markets are important. Conventional methods cannot be applied in building an
industrialized nation. The government will render assistance in
transferring
modern expertise to entrepreneurs. The industrialists should read books and
papers on industries and should make study tours to industries in foreign
nations. The government and the entrepreneurs should make concerted efforts
to ensure availability of rawmat rials and installation of modern machines.
The government would fulfil needs of the sectors which the entrepreneurs are
unable to manage. Similarly, markets should be found for industrial
products;
markets can be found by applying coordinated efforts; quality products will
find markets abroad. The vital means for progress of industries is
industrial
supervisory committees to make coordinations with local authorities and
industrial zone development committees. It is important for the industrial
products to meet the international standards and quality. Not only the
progress of agricultural sector but also the development of industrial
sector
is required in building a peaceful, modern and developed nation."
