Seminar 9999 Resolutions
(September 5, 1999)
Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA
Whereas the peoples of Burma have been suffering under military rule for 37
years and have lost their human rights including freedom of speech,
movement,association, and press;
Whereas the present military government has systematically violated the
rights and dignities of all ethnic nationalities in Burma;
Whereas the peoples of Burma have overwhelmingly expressed their desire for
a free, democratic system as indicated in the May 27, 1990 elections;
Whereas Burma's military government has illegally occupied the Burma seat at
the United Nations without the consent of the Burmese peoples;
Whereas the present military government has so violently violated the human
rights of the Burmese peoples and caused the International Labor
Organization(ILO) to exclude Burma from all its activities;
Whereas the National League for Democracy (NLD) led by Aung San Suu Kyi has
repeatedly called for dialogue and has appealed to the international
community to recognize the Committee Representing the People's Parliament
(CRPP); and
Whereas the military government has adamantly refused to resolve Burma's
political problems through dialogue;
Therefore, be it resolved that we:
1). Call upon all peoples of the world to act through their governments to
form an International Tribunal to try Burma's military rulers for their
crimes against humanity;
2). Call upon all member nations of the United Nations to unseat the
illegal government from the Burma seat;
3). Call upon the United States Government to downgrade the representation
in the Burma Embassy in Washington, DC and to not accept the Ambassador from
Burma until and unless she or he represents a democratic government in that
country;
4). Call upon all international organizations to follow the lead of the ILO
by excluding any representative of the illegal regime in Burma from
participation,observation, and sharing of information and activities of
their organizations;
5). Urge parliamentarians, parliaments, congresses, and all other pertinent
bodies the world over to recognize the Committee Representing the People's
Parliament; and
6). Appeal to the international community to back the NLD's demand for an
immediate dialogue with the present military government.
