THE CARAVAN GOES ON
**********************************
By Julien Moe

1st September 1999

According to the New York Times dated the 31st August 1999, the military
Government issued a stinging personal attack on the opposition leader Daw
Aung San Suu Kyi, accusing her of "mental atrophy" and of lending support to
dissents calling for a popular uprising to topple military rule on Sept.9.
This is not the first time the so-called government has cast false
accusations against the Lady to discredit her and her party. The military
said the leader of the National League for Democracy was acting
"recklessly," and that any attempt at an uprising would fail and be " the
swan song of disaffected individuals.

No matter how the regime discredits opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi,
she's like a caravan that goes on. The regime has everything to lose. More
economic hardships and isolation! The Lady had to lose nothing but will gain
more and more faith and conffidence of the people and of the rest of the
world. If elections were held today, Aung San Suu Kyi would still win a
landslide victory without fail and it is the NUP or whatever party backed by
the regime will surely lose without fail. Rumour or fact, it is also
reported that Lt. Gen Khin Nyunt, Gen. Mg Aye and Senior Gen. Than Shwe
would resign from the current positions in the army so as to contest in the
elections as civilians.
