NCUB Statement regarding SPDC Press Conference Held on 30-8-99

1. On 30-8-99, the SPDC military clique held a press conference, attended also
by foreign military attaches, at the armed forces guesthouse on Inya Road in
Rangoon. The matters submitted at the press conference were mostly
fabrications
and false allegations.

2. Brigadier Gen. Kyaw Win and Lt. Col. Sithu of the SPDC Office of the
Strategic Studies, in their explanations, referred to the so-called statement
of August 14, issued by the NCUB meeting. The fact is that the NCUB has never
issued a statement, bearing the date of August 14. The general conference of
the NCUB was held only in the month of June.

3. At the press conference, the SPDC allegations that the NCUB had laid down
and implementing plans, for the destruction of Burma, was totally untrue. The
SPDC was doing this in fear of losing the power, which it has illegally
obtained, by the shortcut route of using the armed forces. The NCUB has been
implementing only plans and programs, for the liberation of the people of
Burma
from the yoke of the military dictatorship and for the achievement of genuine
democracy and the right to full enjoyment of basic human rights.

4. Allegations insinuating a connection between the NLD in towns and cities
and
the NCUB were merely deceitful fabrications. The NCUB has laid down and has
been carrying out its own programs that would be of support to the Committee
Representing People?s Parliament.

5. In closing, we strongly condemn the SPDC for the odious acts of arresting,
oppressing, intimidating and pressuring the opposition forces and making
groundless allegations and spreading false propaganda.
