0831-01 Up In Planning: New Industrial Zone in Picturesque Taunggyi
**A new industrial zone will be built in the Shan State capital, Taunggyi
soon. Authorities are now in the planning stages with officials of the
Myanma Industrial Development Committee. 

Taunggyi is the provincial capital of Shan state that is in turn the
country's largest province. As the region has huge potential harvests of
fruits and vegetables, food processing, juice making, coffee-producing
industries will be lucrative. Eucalyptus trees are prevalent in the region
and can offer good business for the industrialist. Marble production in
nearby Kayah region can also lure industries into the region. Timber based
industries are good prospects as well. Moreover the region has famous
tourist attraction sites - Inle Lake is popular for their leg rowers and
Kalaw is a summer paradise. 

At present, there are about 37 industrial zones nationwide.

0831-02 Over 100,000 Acres Vacant Land Reclamation OKd
**Over 100,000 acres of vacant land in Bago will be reclaimed for paddy,
pulses and beans, sugarcane cotton and oil crop cultivation in Bago
division. Twenty business enterprises will undertake reclamation and
cultivation works. The main objective of reclaiming vacant land is to
encourage the agro-based industries. 

3 new sugar factories will be operational by February 2000. Recently a
pineapple juice factory started its production. 

0831-03 Central Myanmar Gets Two New Printing & Dyeing Mills
**Two new printing and dyeing mills are being built this year.  This is
under the supervision of the Ministry of Industry 1 who handles all
ceramics, foodstuff, textile, pharmaceutical and chemical enterprises.  The
two new mills are located in Myanmar's cotton rich districts.  One is in
Myingyan, a city near Mandalay and another one is located in Magwe Township
that is about 530 km off Yangon City.  Both these mills are near
completion, and are expected to finish before the year ends.

0831-04 Myanmar-Japan Joint Human Resources Development
**A memorandum was signed between Today's Top star Employment Agency and
J.J International (Japan) on 29 August. 

These two human resources development companies appointed each other as
legal representatives. Sizable numbers of Myanmar workers are working in
Japan. 

0831-05 Indian Diagnostic Products Launched in Myanmar 
**Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd launched its diagnostic range of products in
Myanmar. The product launch was held on 29th August 1999.

Indian companies are well familiar with Myanmar market for decades; big
companies are doing business here, most of them engaged in export and
import business. Mostly these companies deal in exports of rice, pulses and
beans, teak, etc. Their imports are mostly medicines, machineries and other
household goods.
Singaporean and Malaysian based Indian companies have also established
their businesses in Yangon and Mandalay.
