Press Conference held to further expose
subversive activities of some NLD members
and anti-Government organizations

YANGON, 30 Aug - A Press Conference to expose
activities perpetrated by some NLD members in
collusion with anti-government organizations
within the country and without to create
civil unrest in September 1999, to military
attaches of foreign embassies was held at Tatmadaw
Guest House on Inya Road this morning.

Present on the occasion were Deputy Chief
of the Office of the Strategic Studies of the
Ministry of Defence and Deputy Director of Defence
Services Intelligence Brig-Gen Kyaw Win, officials
of the Office of the Strategic Studies and Defence
Services Intelligence, military attaches of
foreign embassies led by Dean of Military
Attaches Corps Military Attachi of the Embassy
of the Russian Federation Col Vladimir I
Kontchakov.

Brig-Gen Kyaw Win made a speech.

Then, the military attaches viewed the seized
exhibit photographs, documents, badges and
posters on display in the hall.

In replying to their queries, the officials
said that the news that schools will be closed
in the beginning of September, is not true;
it is but a rumour spread by unscrupulous
persons; the term 'four nines' is just a
coincidence of date; it doesn't make any sense
to create unrest and demonstration; as
unscrupulous persons are resorting to various
means to create unrest, there are some incidents
of posting up and distributing leaflets; but,
the majority of the people do not wish the
outbreak of unrest and demonstration; therefore,
the people inform the.authorities of destructive
elements as soon as they get information. The
Press Conference came to an end at 10.30 am.
