Seminar on AFTA Process begins in Mandalay


YANGON, 30 Aug-The Seminar on AFTA Process 
sponsored by Sasakawa Peace Foundation of Japan 
and organized by Myanmar Institute of Strategic 
and international Studies and Mandalay Division 
Peace and Development Council began at the Swan 
Hotel Mandalay this morning.


Commander Maj-Gen Ye Myint extended greetings. 
Minister for ASEAN Economic Affairs Brig-Gen Abel 
delivered~an opening address. Director-General of 
ASEAN Affairs Department U Aye Lwin explained 
about the seminar. Mr Yoshinobu Oniri from 
Sasakawa Peace Foundation in Japan spoke words 
of thanks.


    Director Mr Mangsor Saad from Malaysia, 
Director-General U Aye Lwin from Ministry of 
Foreign Affairs, Dr Daw Khin Ohn Thant of 
National AFTA Unit and Rector (Retired) of 
Institute of Economic U Myat Thein will discuss 
the "General Overview: Regional: Perspective", 
"General Overview Myanmar Perspective", "Some 
Basic Concepts of ASEAN Economic Cooperation" 
and "Basic Agreements of ASEAN Economic 
Cooperation" and "Integration of Myanmar 
into ASEAN".


    The seminar continues tomorrow.
