SPDC: LYING FOR A LIVING

SPDC: Lying for a living
by Criticus (30-8-99)

SPDC's malevolent intelligence service (MIS) led by Lt. General Khin
Nyunt has created another front called Myanmar Institute of Strategic &
International Studies whose acronym is officially written as
"Myanmar-ISIS" (see Okkar66129@xxxxxxx, 21-8-99). If it is to be
correctly acronymed it should be MISIS. But the MIS personnel seem to be
too shy to be called MISIS which, they are worried, could also mean
MISSIS--a wife of Westerner. However, adding "Myanmar" to --ISIS won't
change the nature of this department of dirty trick where they have
devoted their lives to lying, cheating, arresting, torturing and killing
people. MISIS is just one of the many faces the MIS wears.

Since the time of BSPP (Burma Socialist Program Party) playing with
names has become an official obsession of Burmese military regimes. They
seem to have believed that name can change the real nature of things.
To them the tail always wags the dog, to say the least. They have paid
more attention to form and names rather than substance. Daw Aung San Suu
Kyi has been dubbed "Bo Gadaw" by the MIS dominated official press
meaning the wife of a white man. When students in Rangoon responded by
jokingly calling Lt. General Khin Nyunt as "Mommy Nyunt" because of the
way he twists his buttocks while walking. MIS personnel become worried
that the students might be playing their game as they did not want a
taste of their own medicine.

Since then the MIS have tried to avoid words with dubious
connotations and become obsessed with names. But they are also well
known for their variety of methods used in torturing political
prisoners. MIS also control jails in Burma which are noted for poor
food, overcrowded cells, hard labour, lack of medical care, and
widespread mental and physical torture. Many prisoners have paralyzed,
crippled, and died in custody. A lot have contracted deadly diseases
while in jail. Family visits are very restricted or not allowed. There
is almost no legal help for political prisoners.

In fact, MIS is Ne Win's version of Japanese Kempetai (Fascist
Military Police) the most feared organization in Burma during the
Japanese occupation period. This may explain why the Japanese
government, institutions and companies seem to be completely feel at
ease with the MIS and SPDC. Several months ago MIS's Colonel Kyaw Win
and his sidekick Hla Min were invited to Tokyo as government's guests.
And on 20 August a joint seminar was held by the five-member study
mission from Research Institute for Peace and Security (RIPS) of Japan
and MISIS. The purpose of the Japanese mission was said to be the
two-year research project on the impact of the entry of Burma and
Cambodia into ASEAN. It was reported to have been a frank discussion
between RIPS and MIS.

But as to who will be ripped off or who will be misused, it remains to
be seen. In Burma it is MIS's privilege to change their mind. They can
blow hot one minute and cold the next. Blowing their own trumpet and
throwing mud at Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and the National League for
Democracy(NLD) are their favourite pastime. They can be easily startled
at one moment and extremely angry at another. Their behaviour can range
from mere eccentricity, folly, and irresponsibility to severe
sub-normality and near-madness. After all they are U Ne Win's (90 years
old) obedient servants.

ASEAN membership has embolden the SPDC to turn its MIS goons into
diplomats whose business usually cover a multitude of sins.
MIS-cum-diplomants run errands for U Ne Win, his daughter Sanda Win and
her children, train their hanger-on like the dentist-thug of
Hiratsuka-shi, Japan, to attack Burmese democrats, oppose UN resolutions
comdemning SPDC, and put on a bold face as if nothing has happened.
