Thailand Mistakenly signs Another Agreement with the Burmese Dictorship

YANGON (Aug. 24) XINHUA - Myanmar and Thailand Tuesday reached two
agreements on the exemption of visa for holders of diplomatic and official
passports and on cultural cooperation.

A press release of the Myanmar Foreign Ministry said the agreement on visa
exemption was signed by Myanmar Foreign Minister U Win Aung and his visiting
Thai counterpart Surin Pitsuwan on behalf of their respective governments.

Surin arrived here Tuesday morning. The cultural agreement was signed by
Myanmar Minister of National Planning and Economic Development U Soe Tha and
Surin.

The agreements were signed after the conclusion of the 5th meeting of the
Myanmar-Thailand Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC),
co-chaired by the two foreign ministers, the press release said.

In December 1997, foreign ministers of Myanmar and Thailand agreed at the
4th meeting of the JCBC held in Bangkok to enhance bilateral cooperation in
the sectors of culture, health, education, technology, agriculture, tourism,
trade, investment, communications, energy, fishery and drug control.
