China to Develop Movie on American Voluntary Aerocade in World War

BEIJING (Aug. 18) XINHUA - American social activist Anna Chan Chennault
has reached an agreement with China to develop a feature movie about her
husband general Chennault in World War II.
The title of the movie is named after Chennault, who was the commander
of the US 14th Air Fleet during the second World War. Anna Chen will
interpret the homonymic role in the movie.
Claire Lee Chennault had organized American voluntary pilots into an
aerocade known as the Flying Tiger Fleet during the Second World War. He
and his men transported arms and other materials, and joined in the air
raid, supporting China against Japanese invaders.
Many of the pilots were killed during the war and people are still
searching for their remains in China's mountainous regions.
The movie will reproduce the history and tell stories of the members of
the Flying Tiger Fleet and their offsprings, as well as the love between
Anna and her husband.
A Hollywood actor will play the leading role of the general. The
Overseas Chinese Artists Association of United States assessed that the
theme of the movie reflects a trans-national humanistic significance.
The experience of the couple, a warrior in the past and an envoy of
peace at present, would bring people a far-reaching self- reflection of
the war launched by human in the 20th century, and lead people to pray
for the peace of the 21st century, the association was quoted as saying.
The director of the film is Qin Jian, who is famous for his film
"Huangpu Love". He has been invited to visit Western Europe and the
United States. In 1994, he developed a documentary for the then European
Community, which was the first practice for a Chinese director.
Qin also directed the first film describing the warfield of China, India
and Burma in the Second World War. In 1998, another film of his "the
Chinese Crusaders" had been issued abroad in several languages.
