Excerpts from report by Burmese TV on 13th August 

A coordination meeting on development of agriculture and livestock breeding and
establishment of model village tracts was held at the meeting hall of the
Office of the Commander in Chief of the Army of the Ministry of Defence at 1430
[local time] this afternoon. Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, secretary-1 of the State Peace
and Development Council [SPDC] attended the meeting... 

Addressing the meeting, the Secretary-l said the Ministry of Agriculture and
Irrigation and the Ministry of Livestock Breeding and Fisheries are
implementing plans to establish agriculture and livestock breeding model
village tracts to use modern techniques in cooperation with local farmers. 

He said Head of State Senior Gen Than Shwe had given guidance on establishment
of model villages to develop agriculture and livestock breeding through the use
of modern techniques and investment in cooperation with local farmers. 

Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt explained that plans on establishment of model village tracts
are being drafted in accordance with the guidance of the head of state. He said
that agriculture and livestock breeding techniques, strains of international
standard, cash, and other assistance would be provided. 

He said that cultivation of paddy and other crops and livestock breeding works
are under way in Kyauktan township, Yangon [Rangoon] Division as the first
phase. He called for cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture and
Irrigation and the Ministry of Livestock Breeding and Fisheries and other
ministries. 

Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin and Deputy Minister
Brig-Gen Khin Maung reported on arrangement for modernization of agriculture
and livestock breeding, including quality strains of paddy and other crops,
increased production and modern techniques. Minister for Fisheries and
Livestock Breeding Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein
reported on measures to be undertaken for modernization of livestock breeding. 

Yangon Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than reported on model farming and
livestock breeding zones for establishment of model village tracts and
infrastructure development in Kyauktan township. 

The meeting ended after Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt participated in the discussions.
