Statement of condemnation on Thai Government and its trade show
We, All Burma Students Democratic Organisation and Free Burma Students
Network, stage protest against Thai government at Thai Consulate-General
(Sydney) for collision with Burmese military regime. Today in Bangkok, Thai
government sponsors a trade show to promote illegal business with illegal
regime in order to exploit the political crisis as the result of regime's
denial to acknowledge the result of the elections in 1990.
Thailand also refuses to recognise the desire of people of Burma by ignoring
the call to recognise the CRPP (Committee Representing People's parliament)
formed by 251 members of parliament-elect on 16th September 1998.
We must point out that Thailand dose not stand on its policy of
non-interference of internal affair of Burma by extending outright
support to illegal junta. Also, Thailand is not sincere in eliminating drug
trafficking in golden-triangle. Even though Thailand banned logging in 1989,
it has cowardly encouraged the deforestation resulted in 766,000 hectors per
year.
Students who have been engaging in non-violent movement in Thailand have
been routinely detained in Special Detention Centre and Immigration
Detention Centre in Bangkok. At present, 5 students are lawlessly detained
without any charges. 1000 activists in Ratchburi Camp are
being restricted of peaceful political activities for
democracy and human rights in Burma. Several thousands of refugees (out of
500,000) were already deported back to the hands of regime where they were
sent to force-labour camps.
Thailand is responsible for formulating ASEAN economic group's policy of
'Constructive Engagement ' which actually benefits the regime by increasing
trade and political ties.
We earnestly demand that Thailand;
cancels this illegal trade show immediately and stops all political,
economic and military ties with illegal regime,
frees Burmese student's political detainees in Thailand immediately and
Recognises Committee Representing People's Parliament (CRPP) as the highest
legitimate authority of Burma and its lawful right to convene the
people's parliament (as per 1990 election result).
