Activists mark 8888, kick off 9999

Subject: Activists mark 8888, kick off 9999-campaign in Germany

Burmese exiles and their German friends and supporters
honoured the victims of the 8888 massacre with a candle light
vigil in front of the Burmese embassy in Bonn. Participants read
out poems and sang songs in memory of friends and comrades lost
and recalled their own experiences of persecution and torture
under the military regime.

They also expressed strong support for the democracy movement
inside Burma and blasted the military regime for refusing to
hand over power to the people and for constantly violating even
the most basic human rights.

This action was the first of a series of events in the run up
to 9999. During the next weeks, public presentations on the situation
in Burma will take place all over Germany to raise awareness
here and to support the democracy movement inside Burma. A major
exhibition in the city of Cologne is one of the highlights
of this campaign.

9999 will see street actions in Cologne and Bonn city centre and
a demonstration in front of the Burmese embassy in Bonn. Please join
us there!!!
