FIET Resolution in Support of CRPP.
Free Burma Coalition, Australia
48th. APRO FIET EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
26 - 27 JULY 1999
KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA
RESOLUTION ON BURMA
The 48th. Apro FIET Executive Committee meeting held in Kuala Lumpur on 26
- 27 July 1999:
Welcomes the Resolution on Burma adopted at the 1999 ILO Conference in
which the ILO is to refuse Burma all technical assistance and is to ban
representatives of the Burmese regime from attending ILO meetings until
such time when the military junta comply with the recommendations of the
Commission of inquiry in its report on forced labour in Burma.
Condemns the SLORC - now SPDC military regime for the ongoing human rights
abuses and slavery as spelled out by the ILO Report and for failing to:
. implement the recommendations and measures of the ILO Commission of
Inquiry,
. hold substantial political dialogue with the National League of Democracy
(NLD) and members of the non-Burmese ethnic groups.
Recognises the:
. The legal authority of the Committee to Represent the People's Parliament
(CRPP), established by the NLD in 1998 as the genuine representative of
peoples parliament in Burma;
. The National Coalition Government of the Union of Burma (NCGUB) as the
provisional government in exile of Burma with the authority to speak on
behalf of the people of Burma in the international arena;
. The Federation of Trade Unions, Burma as the Federation with the
authority to speak on behalf of workers of Burma in the international arena
until such time as the "right to association" is granted to the workers of
Burma.
Demands the so called State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) to respect
the will of the Burmese people as clearly expressed by the results of the
1990 elections by not obstructing the democratically elected
representatives to convene their parliament without further delay.
Insists that SPDC release, without condition, all political prisoners and
trade unionists such as U Khin Kyaw and U Myo Aung Thant of the FTUB who
were arrested in June 1997.
Calls on the international community including the Asean to recognise the
CRPP and the NCGUB as the genuine representatives of the Burmese people and
to give both legal and political support to them.
Pledges FIET and its affiliates unstinted support to the Burmese people and
workers in their struggle for human and trade union rights and for the
restoration of democracy in Burma.
