NLD SHOULD NOT ACCEDE TO SPDC'S DEMAND TO RESCIND THE "COMMITTEE"
By Julien Moe
20th July 1999

After EU mission to Burma, the military brasshats gave a so-called positive
reaction with regard to possible dialogues with NLD. On the other hand, the
regime demanded NLD to rescind the interim parliamentary committee as a
pre-requisite condition. Why has the military junta demanded NLD to repeal
such a committee? The answer is crystal clear. For fear of an interim
government being formed by NLD! If such a government were to appear and got
recognised by the international community, the military government in
Rangoon would become void.

But in order to have a dialogue with the brasshats with such an already
bloated military establishment , should NLD step back and cancel the
committee? The answer is no. If NLD made a decision to rescind the
committe, it would benefit the brasshats first because the "committee" they
fear would be no more. The state media has been proudly declaring the
resignations of the NLD members on a daily basis. If SPDC genuinely had a
craving to have talks with NLD, why would they be eliminating NLD members by
forcing them to sign resignation letters?

It would be well to keep in mind that the regime has never kept its words
with regard to the political process that has been laid out by elected MPs
and opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi.Lame reasons and worn-out terms such
as "neo-imperialists, communists, foreign thugs and destructive elements"
have been used and will be used again to discredit NLD that is determined
to bring change to Burma. The brasshats are no more than enemies of the
ballot waiting for a breakthrough at the expense of NLD , not for the
nation but for their pertinatious gang, the military elite class.
