Myanmar FM to visit Dhaka next month

Dhaka: 26Jun99

Foreign Minister of Myanmar U Win Aung will arrive here mid-July on a
three-day "familiarisation" tour of Bangladesh, reports BSS.
This will be part of the Myanmar's New Foreign Minister's visit to the
countries of the region, sources in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA)
said yesterday.
U Win Aung, who had been an army officer for over two decades till
mid-eighties, briefly served in the Myanmar Ministry of Foreign Affairs
before being posted in Vientiane, Laos. He was Myanmar Ambassador to Bonn,
head of the Mission of the European Union in Brussels and permanent
representative to IAEA in Vienna. Before assuming the charge of the Foreign
Ministry on November 14 last year to succeed U Ohn Gyaw, U Win Aung served
as Myanmar Ambassador to the United Kingdom.
During his three-day visit to Bangladesh beginning July 17, Win Aung is
scheduled to call on President Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed, Prime Minister
Sheikh Hasina and hold talks with Foreign Minister Abdus Samad Azad on
matters of bilateral interest.
Azad visited Myanmar in November last year and signed a treaty on the
demarcation of land section of the boundary north of the Naaf river. During
the interim period, a Bangladeshi business delegation visited Myanmar. The
two countries have great prospects for cooperation, specially in trade and
commerce. Myanmar is the only other country after India with whom
Bangladesh has border.
