B50m drug bust at airport
Several thousand doses of the trendy hallucinogenic drug ketamine were
seized at
Bangkok airport this week.
Customs officers found about 5,500 10mg doses in baggage off a Myanmar
Airlines
flight from Karachi on Wednesday, and 3,800 doses in unclaimed luggage that
arrived on a Thai International flight from Karachi yesterday.
The drugs had a Bangkok street value of about 50 million baht, a spokesman
said.
The suitcases belonged to a Pakistani national and a Burmese man.
No arrests had been made.
Ketamine, a veterinary anaesthetic, is known as "special K" in the US.
It has become popular among Thai teenagers and in the entertainment industry.
The spokesman said a Burmese man was arrested at the airport on Thursday
when a
customs check revealed 45,500 tablets of pain reliever in his suitcase.
