Brief personal accounts of members of Committee Representing People's
Parliament (CRPP)

Chairman of CRPP
U Aung Shwe	
MP-elect from  No. 1 constituency, Mayangone Township, Rangoon Division
Date of birth	= 19 July 1981
Son of U Phoo Koon
Chairman of the NLD 
He graduated in Arts from Rangoon University in 1940. He served in BIA, BDA
and PBF from 1942 to 1945. In 1961 he was forced to retire from the Army
while he was serving as the Commander of the Southern military Command due
to accusations that he was biased in the election. Then he was appointed as
the ambassador to Spain and New Zealand from 1961 to 1975. During the 1990
election, he was the Chairman of the POCL, which is closely affiliated to
NLD. While Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and U Tin Oo were placed under house-arrest
he became the Chairman of the NLD. He was among the NLD representatives who
boycotted the National Convention on 28 December 1995.

1. U Than Tun
MP-elect from No. 2 constituency, Taungtha Township, Mandalay Division
Date of birth	= 1921
Son of U Pho Min
A member of the Central Executive Committee of NLD
He was a member of Myingyan Student Union during 1937 to 1941. From 1942 to
1946 he worked for BIA. He was also the Secretary of Myingyan District
AFPFL from 1946 to 1953. He was elected to the Constituent Assembly in 1947
and later became a Member of Parliament and Parliamentary Secretary. From
1953 to 1962, he was the Secretary of the Trade Union Confederation of
Burma. In 1964, he became a member of BSPP. He was among the NLD
representatives who boycotted the National Convention on 28 December 1995.

2. U Aye Thar Aung: Representing Shan National League for Democracy,
Arakan League for Democracy, Mon National Democracy Front, and Zomi
National Congress  
He was born in Myaebon Township, Arakan State. He served as a
Sergeant-Major and worked in Ka-Pa-Sa. He was dismissed and imprisoned in
Mandalay jail due to his under-ground political activities and released
under amnesty in 1974. He is a member of Central Executive Committee of
ALD. He is also a member of Secretaries of ALD and UNLD.

1. U Tin Oo
Deputy Chairman, National League for Democracy
He was born in 1927 in Bassein, Irrawaddy Division. He was a General and

the Defense Minister from 1974 to 1976. He is an exceptional General who
was highly respected by the soldiers and the people. He was dismissed and
imprisoned due to accusation that he was involved in an unsuccessful coupe.
He was released under amnesty in 1980 and then he made a law degree. On
September 2, he became the Vice-Chairman of the NLD and on December 20, the
Chairman of NLD. From 20-7-1989 he was put under house-arrest and on
22-12-1989, he was imprisoned for three years.

2. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi	
General Secretary, National League for Democracy
Date of birth	= 19 July 1945
Daughter of U Aung San and Daw Khin Kyi
She was born in Rangoon. Her father if the father of Burma Army. She
studied in Indian and United Kingdom. 
Married to Dr. Michael Aris (deceased) and has two sons. After living
abroad for many years, she returned to Burma in 1988. She became the
figure-head of Burmese democracy movement since 1988. One the co-founders
and the Secretary-General of the NLD. She was placed under house-arrest
from 19-7-89 to 16-7-95. She has been awarded numerous prestigious prizes
including Nobel Peace Price, 1991. She is regarded as "Symbol of Hope" by
the people of Burma.

3. U Lwin (a) Colonel Maung Lwin (Retd.)
MP-elect, Constituency 1, Thongwa Township, Rangoon Division
Date of birth	= 22 September 1924
Son of U Ba Tha
He was the former Deputy Prime Minister and a member of BSPP State Council.
He served in BIA, BDA and PBF from 1942 to 1945. He completed military
officers' training at the Japanese Royal Military Academy and he studied at
the British Royal Military Academy from 1952 to 1954. He has also served as
the military Attachè to the USA.

4. U Hla Pe	
MP-elect from No. 1 constituency, Moulmeingyun Township, Irrawaddy Division
Date of birth	= 19 January 1927
Son of U Maung Hsi
A member of the Central Executive Committee of NLD and in-charge of
Irrawaddy Division. During the Parliamentary Democracy period, he was an
elected Representative from Mawlamyine Gyunn Township from 1951 to 1961. He
was the Secretary of Township and Divisional AFPFL. In 1967, he worked as
an officer at the Ministry of Transportation and Communications and retired
in 1986.

5. U Soe Myint (a) Thakhin  Soe Myint
MP-elect from No. 1 constituency, South Okkalapa Township, Rangoon Division
Date of birth	= 16 August 1923
Son of U Sein
A member of the Central Executive Committee of NLD
He was one of the founders of People's Revolutionary Party (PRP), which was
one of the active organizations before Independence. He was the Secretary
of Myaungmya Township Dobama Asiayone (We Burma Association) which was also
a pro-independent anti-Japanese organization. He was the Regiment Commander
of BDA and the Chairman of Myaungmya District Socialist Party.

6. U Lun Tin (a) Colonel Lun Tin (Retrd.)
MP-elect from No. 1 constituency, Moulmein Township, Mon State
Date of birth	= 1 February 1921
Son of U Tun Lin and Daw Thein May
He is the Central Executive Committee member of the POCL. On 9-10-96, he
became the member of Central Executive Committee of NLD and in-charge of
Mon State. He served in BIA, BDA and PBF from 1953 to 1956. He was

Regimental Commander of Brigade 7 and of the Northwest Military Command. He
was dismissed and imprisoned from 1965 to 1967 because of his involvement
in Monks' Strike. He served as Director-General of Ministry of Industry 1
from 1978 to 1983.

7. U Nyunt Wei	
MP-elect from No. 2 constituency, Taungoo Township, Pegu Division
Date of birth	= 14 November 1926
Son of U Ba Swe
He graduated from Rangoon Institute of Economics and got Maser of Arts in
Administration from Harvard University. He was the Chief Manager of the
Bank of Industry and the Bank of Agriculture from 1952 to 1986. He was the
treasurer of NLD and became a member of Central Executive Committee of NLD.
