YANGON (April 25) XINHUA - A Myanmar delegation left here
Sunday for
Thailand to attend the 4th Ministerial Meeting of
Myanmar, Thailand and
Laos on cooperation in drug control due to begin in
Bangkok Monday.

The delegation was led by Colonel Thein Nyunt, minister
of Progress of
Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs.
He is also
vice-chairman of the Myanmar Central Committee for Drug
Abuse Control.

The two-day meeting is expected to discuss cooperative
measures to
counter and suppress narcotic trade and trafficking, and
tackle drug
problems on the three countries' border.

In July 1997, the three agreed at their third ministerial
meeting in Vientiane to
cooperate in eradicating opium poppy cultivation in the
border areas and
combating trafficking of chemicals and materials for the
production of
               narcotic drugs.

The three countries also called for coordination among
law enforcement
agencies for exchange of information on drug control
measures and
enacting laws and rules on drug abuse control in the
sub-region.

Myanmar, Thailand and Laos meet in the golden triangle
area where
narcotic drug production and trafficking are critical.
