World Press Freedom Day



May 3 is "World Press Freedom Day". 

World Association of Newspapers, World Editors Forum issued a publication.
According to World Association of Newspapers/ Committee to project
journalists, at least 500 journalists have been killed in the line of duty
since 1988. In 1998, 28 journalists were killed and at least 117
journalists remain in prison in 25 countries:

Burma = 8
Syria = 8
Cuba = 5
Kuwait = 5
Peru = 4
Gabon = 3
Russia = 2
Algeria = 2
South Korea = 2
Tunisia = 2
Vietnam = 2
Nigeria = 2
Benin = 2
Togo = 2
D. R. Congo = 2
Madagascar = 2
Uzbekistan = 1
Iraq = 1
Iran = 1
Somalia = 1
Cameron = 1

In Burma, 8 known journalists are being imprisoned. They are:
1. U Win Tin, imprisoned on 4th July 1989
2. U Maung Maung Lay Ngwe, imprisoned in September 1990
3. U Myo Myint Nyein (What's happening), imprisoned in September 1990 
4. U Sein Hlaing (What's happening), imprisoned in September 1990
5. Daw San San New, imprisoned on 5th August 1994 
6. U Sein Hla Oo, imprisoned on 5th August 1994
7. Ma Myat Moe Moe Tun, imprisoned in 1994
8. Ye Htut, imprisoned on 27th September 1995
