Free Burma-Boycott Totalcare!

Free Burma-Boycott Totalcare!
Members of All Burma Students Democratic Organization ( Australia)
organized a protest action at the Canberra Headquarters of Totalcare that
is run by Australian Capitol Territory government, on 9th of April 1999.
At the office protest letter was received by the secretary of Mr. Tony
Langhorn, Manager of Land and Signs department of Totalcare Industries. Not
surprisingly, the request for an urgent meeting with the management was not
granted . According to opposition Labor MLA Simon Corbell who supported the
ABSDO actions, It is 40, 000 A$ sub-contract project making signs
for Burma's freeways, but the fact is that it is government run company. By
having this business contract ACT government is virtually supporting the
regime that suppress the people of Burma over three decades. He is also
expected to take further action after receiving response from Liberal
government Chef Minister Kate Carnell over the ACT government ignorant of
the gross violation of human rights committed by the military regime.
We believe this contract with ACT Liberal government and SPDC regime
shows the failure of Australian policy on Burma. In the policy Australian
government refuses to adopt any tough actions including Economic sanctions
urged by Daw Aung San Suu Kyi the leader of Committee Representing People's
Parliament, democracy movement.
More protest actions are underway as the ABSDO protest drew local media
attention and wider Australian community. ABSDO has launched 'Free Burma-
Boycott Totalcare!' Campaign focussing to force the company withdraws from
doing business with military regime. If you want to join this campaign

-On the same day ABSDO handed in an open letter to the Premiers Conference
(8-9 April) at the parliament house requesting all Australian states and
territory to adopt ' Selective Purchasing Laws' which will ban companies
doing business with regime from any contract with the states and territory
governments.
ABSDO also urge the state political leaders to recognize Committee
Representing People's Parliament, CRPP, as the highest authority of people
of Burma and its lawful right to convene people's parliament as per 1990
elections. The copies of the letters were sent to representatives of
Australian Labor Party, Liberal Party, Australian Democrats, The Greens,
respectively.
