Burma NLD official unmoved
by mass criticism
Reports from Burma say that more than ten thousand
people attending a rally in support of the military
government have denounced a leading member of the
National League for Democracy, U Lwin.
The rally was held in Thwonga township in the
constituency won by U Lwin in the l990 parliamentary
election.
In an interview with the BBC he said he had won sixty
eight per cent of the popular vote in the election, but that
the military authorities were free to do as they wished.
The military authorities have refused to hand over power
to the elected NLD government and the parliament has
not sat .
U Lwin also commented that there was no rule of law in
rural areas.
