Contents of letter dated 22 February 1999 from the Chairman, National 
League for Democracy to the Chairman of the Chairman of the State Peace 
and Development Council is reproduced and published for the information 
of all.

" Subject- Condemnation of injustices and illegalitites

1.	Pegu Division, Prome township National League for Democracy 
organising committee members (eight including women) and Shwedaung 
township chairman were arrested on 30 May, 1998 for holding the monthly 
meeting,. Now, (nine months later) they have sentenced to 5 years 
imprisonment each.

2.	The National League for Democracy is a legally constituted 
organisation and its operations have always been in accordance with all 
the provisions of law. There has been no disturbances or unrest.

3.	There was inordinate delay in producing prosecution witness at the 
commencement of the trial then just before sentencing witness were 
examined in a great rush. Defence lawyers were denied their legal rights 
and the trial was biased and prejudicial against the accused. These 
injustices are deplored and condemned by us.
