(1) 		Efforts Being Made to Tame Over 23 Million Acres in Addition to 23
Million 	Already Sown

		About 23 million acres are being put under crops in the nation at present.
Work plans have been laid down for  transforming vacant, virgin and fallow
lands into farms with high momentum as there still left another 23 million
acres of cultivable areas in the nation. This task is being implemented in all
parts of the nation simultaneously. In some regions, national entrepreneurs
are actively participating in taming virgin lands and wetlands measurable in
millions of acres to become large-scale farms. Especially in Ayeyawady,
Magway, Yangon, Bago and Taninthayi Divisions, nearly 40 national enterprises
groups are energetically transforming large stretches of vacant virgin and
fallow lands and wetlands with the help of machinery and know-how. 

(2)		Secretary-1 Hosts Dinner in Honour of Singaporean Ministers 

		Secretary-1 of the state Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt
hosted dinner in honour of Minister for Trade and Industry Mr Lee Yock Suan,
Ministry for Communications Mr Mah Bow Tan and Minister of National
Development Mr Lim Hng Kiang and high ranking officials who attended the
Myanmar-Singapore Third Joint Ministerial Working Committee at Karaweik Palace
on 24th February.

(3)		Chairman of MIC Receives Vice Managing Director of Asian International
	Investment

		Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin
received Vice-Managing Director of Asian International Investment Group Co of
Hongkong Mr. Re Shili who called at his office on 24th February.

(4)		Minister for CPT Meets Minister of Communications of Singapore
		Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs met Minister of
Communications Mr Mah Bow Tan, currently in Yangon to attend Myanmar-
Singapore Third Joint Ministerial Working Committee Meeting, who called at his
office on 24th February. They discussed condition of communication facilities
in Myanmar and ways to undertake communications works with foreign private
organizations and companies.


(5)		Aye Yar Hotel Yangon Opens

		The opening ceremony of Aye Yar Hotel Yangon, jointly sponsored by Myan Gon
Myint Co Ltd and Mandalay Golden Wing Hotel and Construction Ltd, was held in
front of the hotel No 170-176 on Bo Aung Kyaw Street in Botahtaung Township on
24th February. The twelve-storey Aye Yar Hotel Yangon has two special rooms,
nine ordinary rooms, on each floor and a reception hall a business centre, a
dining hall and a wedding hall.

(6)		Encyclopedia Myanmar CD-ROM Donated to Organizations and Departments

		A ceremony to donate Encyclopedia Myanmar CD-ROM to organizations and
departments was held at Myanma Radio and Television on 24th February.
Altogether 86 categories in 15 Volumes of Encyclopedia Myanmar and 20
Yearbooks are stored in one CD ROM.

(7)		Fourth International Heroin Conference Goes into Second Day

		The fourth International Heroin Conference sponsored by International
Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) continued for the second day at
International Business Centre on 24th February. Present on the occasion were
totalling 74 from 28 countries.Police Maj-Gen Soe Win of Myanmar Police Force
presided over the conference and Deputy Chief of Thai Police Mr. Viraj
Jutimitta acted as co-chairman. Specialized Officer of Interpol Mr. Philippe
Quilici reported on European trafficking routes and organizations, Mr.
Sandullah Sana of Switzerland on heroin situation in Switzerland, Director of
Police Narcotics Bureau of Sri Lanka Mr C L Ratnayake on heroin situation in
Sri Lanka, Asia Pacific Inter-Country Team leader of UNAIDS Mr. William F
Beachner on narcotics and AIDS problem and Specialized Officer of Interpol Mr
Philippe Quilici on heroin production and trafficking in America. Assistant
Director of Interpol Mr. Ian Bain reported on West African heroin trafficking
network and Head of Customs Narcotics Unit of Ghana Mr. Peter Asante Acquah on
heroin situation in Ghana. Delegates of other nations took part in the
discussions. The conference continues till 26 February.

(8)		Heroin, Stimulants Seized in Lashio, Mongshu

		A combined team comprising members of regional intelligence unit and Myanmar
Police Force searched the house of Ma Khan Wai of Lashio, Shan State (North),
on 8 February. The team seized 80 soap boxes containing heroin weighing 1.7713
kilograms from the house owner and Ma Aye Lyan,  Lashio, who had arrived at
that house. Action is being taken against them according to Narcotic Drugs and
Psychotrophic Substances Law. 

		Similarly, a combined team comprising members of regional intelligence unit,
the Tatmadaw (Defence Services), Myanmar Police Force and Ward Peace and
Development Council, acting on information, searched the house of Maung Zaw,
Mongshu, Shan State (South), on 11 February. The combined team seized 80
stimulants bearing words "WY". Action is being taken against him according to
the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotrophic Substances Law.

(9)		Narcotic Drugs Destroyed at the Thirteenth Destruction in Yangon
		Today in Yangon the 13th Destruction of Narcotic Drugs seized by Law
Enforcement Agencies were put to torch in front of the diplomats, UN

representatives, officials attending the 4th International Heroin Conference,
local and foreign journalists and other visiting dignitaries. The narcotic
drugs destroyed are as follows:-
