NCUB rewarded a Japanese with Democ



Subject: NCUB rewarded a Japanese with Democracy and Feedom award.

News release

The commemoration of 52nd anniversary of Burma Union day was held in Tokyo
on the February 12, 1999. The Burmese democratic Organization groups Joint
Action Committee, The peoples forum on Burma (Japanese NGO) and Japanese
Association of International culture and Economy (Jaice) formed joint
committee to celebrate the Burma Union day.  NCUBs member of Patrons, U Tin
Maung Win, NCUB vice chairman U Win Khet and various groups of Burmese
communities and Japanese attended this ceremony.  Mr. Taiji Hosono, chairman
of Jaice made an opening speech and U Tin mg Win spoke about current
situation of Burma after 37 years rule under military junta. The freelance
photojournalist Mr. Munesuke Yamamoto explained the situation of ethnic
minorities and their life with slide films. U Win Khet made an explanation
about NLA and Committee for Representative of Peoples Parliament (CRPP).
After the Lunch the panel discussion made between U Tin Maung Win, U Win
Khet, Mr. Kei Nemoto, the professor of Tokyo Foreign Language University,
Mr. Shu Sugawara, the member of Japan Journalist Council and Specialist on
Burma affair, Mr. Hisao Tanabe. U Tin Maung Win announced that the NCUB made
a discussion for rewarding the Foreigners who promote democracy in Burma
with The Democracy and Freedom award. This is the first time for awarding
the people who help to promote democracy in Burma. The fast award went to
Mr. Hisao Tanabe (Burmese name = U Shwe Ba), the most active supporter for
promoting democracy in Burma.
