SPDC Delegation Stumbled During the State Visit to Japan

The Burmese government delegation headed by Brigidier-General Kyaw Win
cancelled the trip to Japan after uncessful talks with the Japanese
government officials. The delegation was called back to Rangoon by the
Senior authorities in Rangoon. During the trip in Japan, Brigidier-General
Kyaw Win told Colonel Hla Min to tell the press that  Rangoon is going to
hold elections within 2 or  3 years. That was a major blunder made by the
delegation  who were not instructed to make such comments. The delegation
was supposed to continue the trip to Singapore where a business deal was
going to be made yet it was cancelled. Brigidier-General Kyaw Win and Col.
Hla Min are now in Rangoon awaiting the decision from the Senior
authorities. The two parties cannot leave Rangoon without reporting the
senior authorities. Both are now under surveillence. Own Gyaw, an eloquent
ex-foreign minister was ousted for a mistake he made during a speech given
at the ASEAN meeting. Sources reckon that Brigidier-General Kyaw Win and
Colonel Hla Min could be reprimanded by the senior authorities if not
ousted.The decision is reported to be made on the 1st of February 1999.
