(1)		Secretary-1 Receives US Congressman
		Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt
received US Congressman Mr. Tony Patrick Hall and party who called at Dagon
Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence  on 13 January.

(2)		National Convention Convening Commission Meets
		
National Convention Convening Commission held a meeting at the meeting hall of
NCCC on 13 January. Secretary of National Convention Convening Commission
reported on matters pertaining to the National Convention and to the National
Convention Convening Work Committee and the National Convention Management
Committee. Members of the National Convention Convening Commission took part
in the discussions.

(3)		Regional Consultation on Violence Against Women and Role of Health Sector
Continues
		
Regional Consultations on Violence Against Women and the Role of Health
Sector, cosponsored by World Health Organization, the Ministry of Health, the
Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement and Myanmar National
Committee for Women's Affairs continued for the second day at International
Business Centre on 13 January. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Pensri
Phijaisanit of Thailand and members of the panel of chairmen as member of
MNWCWA Vice-Chairman of Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association Head of
Working Group for Prevention of Violence Against Women and Rehabilitation Dr.
Khin Win Shwe and Ms. Husna Razee of Maldives. Ms. Choden Wangmo Namgyal of
Bhutan was the rapporteur. Dr. Lori Heise of the United States and Professor
Ravindra gave lectures on the role of the health sector in protection of
violence against women and rehabilitation and types of violence faced by women
and the action to be taken in accord with the law. Other participants gave
suggestions. The meeting adjourned in the afternoon. It continues till 15
January.

(4)		Assistant Director of Cultural Institute Department Leaves for Singapore
		
Assistant Director Daw Nan Lo Ngin of the Shan State Cultural Institute
Department of the Ministry of Culture left Yangon for Singapore by air on 12
January to attend the Meeting of Curators to observe the International ASEAN
Contemporary Painting Exhibition in Singapore from 12 to 15 January


(5)		UMEHL Gem, Jade Sales Continue
		Union of Myanmar Economic Holdings Limited continued its 10th gems and jade
sales at Myanma Gems Mart, No 66, Kaba Aye Pagoda Road, from 9 am to 5 pm on
13 January. A total of 514 local and foreign merchants viewed the gems, jade
and jewellery.

(6)		Myanmar Win 4 Golds in VII Far East South Pacific Games for the Disabled
		
Myanmar has won four golds, six silvers and seven bronzes in VII Far East and
South Pacific Games for the Disabled being held in Bangkok, Thailand. In the
matches held on 11 January. Tin Tin Khaing won one gold in women's 100 metres
and one silver in short-put, Win Naing one gold in men's javelin, Khin Phyu
Win one gold in women's javelin and Nyunt Nyunt Win one silver in the same
event, Thein Tun one silver in men's high jump, Kyaw Khaing one silver in
men's 100 metres, Saw Lwin one silver in men's 100 metres and Tin Ngwe one
bronze in the same event, San San Hla two bronzes in women's 100 metres and
long jump respectively, Aye Hlaing one bronze in men's long jump, Ma Aye one
bronze in women's 100 metres and Aye Ko Ko one bronze in men's javelin. In 12
January events, Aye Ko Ko won one gold in men's discus, Aung Gyi one silver in
men's shot-put and Thant Zin (2) one bronze in men's 100 metres. Myanmar team
will compete in track and field, volleyball, swimming and judo events till 16
January.

(7)		Motorcycle Donated to Cycling Federation
		
A ceremony to donate an Escort Rx-100 Japan Motorcycle to Myanmar Cycling
Federation by Glover Electrical Industries Pte Ltd was held at the meeting
hall of Aung San Stadium on 13 January. Manager of Glover Electrical
Industries Pte Ltd Mr. Ian Glover explained about the donation and presented
related documents to Director-General of Sports and Physical Education
Department.
