(1)		Ceremony of Laying Foundation of ITBMU Main Building

		A ceremony to lay the cornerstone of the main building of the International
Theravada Buddhist Missionary University was held at the pandal on the campus
of the university near the Tooth Relic Pagoda in Mayangon Township on 10
January.

(2)		Dinner in Honour of Graduates of MBA

		Dinner was hosted in honour of Master of Business Administration graduates
conferred by Yangon Institute of Economics at Mya Yeik Nyo Royal Hotel on 10
January, attended by Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of
the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt. In his address, the
Secretary-1 said those who completed the course for Master of Business
Administration and got the degree of MBA were a new strength of economists who
will strive for the economic development of the State with full vigour.  In
accord with the changing economic system, efforts are being made to enable
national entrepreneurs to achieve success in their business undertakings and
to acquire technology and investment from abroad with a view to promoting the
development of the State in synchronization with the international economic
development; in this regard, the Government is making arrangements for
emergence of economists, successful economic entrepreneurs and those having
business management skill, who are highly essential for the country.  The
Secretary-1 urged all MBA degree holders to strive in economic, education and
management sectors for materialization of the political, economic and social
objectives, promote economic undertakings consistent with the nation's
history, culture and traditions, develop national economy to be able to keep
up with other countries, and uplift national economy with the cooperation and
management of local economists, entrepreneurs and business administrators for
the betterment of the nation's future.

(3)		Crops Being Cultivated on Reclaimed Vacant, Virgin Lands in Magway
Division

		Chairman of Central Committee for Management of vacant, fallow and virgin
lands Minister for Agriculture & Irrigation presented permits to reclaim
vacant, fallow and virgin lands in bulk to the chairmen and managing directors
of private companies.  Asia World Co Ltd will engage on over 10,000 acres,
Dagon International Ltd on over 36,000 acres, Myanmar Billion Group Co Ltd on
over 29,000 acres, Yuzana Co Ltd on over 30,000 acres, International Co Ltd on
over 40,000 acres, Shwe Family on over 10,000 acres, Shwe Thazin Syndicate Ltd
on over 20,000 acres, Olympic Co Ltd on over 5,000 acres and Aung Htaik Min Co
on over 7,000 acres.
 
(4)		Paper Reading Session of MES

		Paper reading session of Myanmar Engineering Society was held at the society
on 10 January.  Papers were presented on Electric Power Engineering by U Pyi
Soe and U Jawt Bumu, on Petroleum Engineering by U Win Myint and on Metallurgy
Engineering by U Aung Hla Tun. Paper reading session on Electronics
Engineering, Aviation Engineering and Architecture will be held at the same
venue on 17 January and those interested may attend it,  it is learnt.

(1)		UMEHL  Gem, Jade Sales Begin

		Jade and gem lots totalling 494 with reserve prices of US $ 1.38 million and
K 422.78 million are on display at the 10th gem and jade sales of Union of
Myanmar Economic Holdings Limited. The sales which began on 11 January morning
at Myanma Gems Mart are of 234 lots of gems at reserve price of K 365.78
million, 95 jade lots at reserve price of US $ 1.38 million and 165 gem and
jewellery lots of entrepreneurs at K 57 million will go on daily from 9 am to
5 pm till 14 January.  Sales of gems, jade and jewellery by bargain and
auction systems will begin at 9 am on 15 January. 

(2)		Amphetamine Base Powder Seized in Kutkai

		A combined team comprising members of the local Defence Services
Intelligence unit and Myanmar Police Force, acting on information stopped and
searched a white Hilux car at the toll gate of Muse (North East Shan State)
and seized 17 bags of Amphetamine base powder weighing 635 kilos in the car
and arrested Than Pe (a) Kyan Sont, driver, in Ward 8, Lashio and San Tun, a
passenger in the car. Legal action is being taken against them under the
Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
