(1)		Senior General Than Shwe Receives Chief Editor of Leaders Magazine
		Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Senior General Than Shwe
received Chief Editor of the Leaders Magazine Mr. Henry Dormann who called at
Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence at 9 am on 8 January.
(2)		 Seminar Held on Value-added Preservation of Seafood 
		Myanmar Seafood Value-Added Preservation and Technology Launch Seminar  was
held at the Traders Hotel on 8 January. Regional General Manager Mr. Henry
Chan of Tequisa Asia Co and Managing Director U Aung Zaw of Zin 9 Co Ltd
delivered addresses. Afterwards, Mr. Johnny Goh of Tequisa Asia Co made a
presentation on preservation of seafood and replied to the questions raised by
those present. 
(3)		Naga Armed Group Members Exchange Arms for Peace in Khamti
		Realizing that their destructive acts did not benefit the nation at all, and
understanding the genuine goodwill and correct endeavours of the government,
remaining armed groups have been exchanging arms for peace individually or in
groups. Three members including 2nd-Lt Mat Chi of Naga armed group (NNC) and
six family members exchanged arms for peace at the camp of local battalion in
Khamti Township on 26 December 1998. The Officiating Tactical Operations
Commander presented cash assistance to persons who exchanged arms for peace
and fulfilled their requirements.
(4)		Two Retransmission Stations Opened 
		A TV retransmission station in Mabein, Shan State was built with the funds
of the Department for the Progress of Border Areas and National Races and
under the supervision of Myanmar Radio and Television, the construction work
was completed on 26 December, 1998. The 50- watt facility is retransmitting
MRTV programmes beginning 27 December. Similarly, construction work of TV
Retransmission Station in Pruhso, Kayah State, was completed on 1 January,
1999. The 50-watt facility is retransmitting MRTV programmes beginning 2
January.
(5)		YU Law Dept Opens Course on Commercial Law 
		Diploma and Certificate Courses on Commercial Law No 1/99 of Law Department
of Yangon University were opened at Yamanya Lecture Hall on the campus of the
University on 8 January with the arrangement made by YU Human Resources
Development Centre. Altogether 119 trainees are attending the nine-month
diploma course and 59 the three-month certificate course.
(6)		MES to Hold Paper Reading Sessions 
		Subject-wise paper reading sessions sponsored by Myanmar Engineering Society
will be held at the society on 10 January. Those interested in Electric Power
Engineering, Metallurgy Engineering and Petroleum Engineering may attend it.
