(1)		National Workshop on Community Based Drug Demand Reduction Lessons from
Projects on Reducing Illicit Drug Use in the Highlands of East-Asia

		National Workshop on Community Based Drug Demand Reduction Lessons from
Projects on Reducing Illicit Drug Use in the Highlands of East-Asia jointly
sponsored by Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control and the United Nations
Drug Control Programme (UNDCP) under the MoU signed by six countries on the
project on drug control in the sub-region opened at Hotel Equatorial on
Alanpyaphaya Road on 6 January. Secretary of CCDAC Director-General of Myanmar
Police Force,  Resident Representative of UNDCP and Adviser on Reducing
Illicit Drug Use Mr. Wayne Bazant made speeches. Projects on Reducing Illicit
Drug Use are being implemented from 1997 to 1999 in six villages in Muse
Township in Northern Shan State and Momauk Township in Kachin State. Advisers,
experts and departmental officials including project managers of UNDCP
Regional  Office in  Bangkok  will  discuss matters relating to Community
Based Drug Demand Reduction. The workshop continues on 7 January.

(2)		Myanmar Intranet and Data Communication Technology Presented

		Data Services Co Ltd, a member of Eagle Group of Companies, presented a
demonstration on Myanmar Intranet and Data Communication technology at the
Overseas Communications Station, Myanma Posts and Telecommunications, Mayangon
Township, on 6 January.  Managing Director of Eagle Group  presented cash to
be spent for sending  four  MPT personnel to training courses abroad through
MPT Managing  Director.  Chief  Executive  Officer  of  Eagle Group  Mr. Pat
James explained about the communication technology to those present. Later on,
consultant to Data Services Co Ltd  demonstrated how it works.

(3)		Amateur Cyclist Team Arrives from U.S.

		A 23 member American amateur cyclist team arrived Yangon by Silk Air flight
on 
6 January with the arrangement jointly made by the Myanmar Hotels and Tourism
Services and  7 Days Travels and Tours Co Ltd as an adventure-based tourism
programme. Accompanied by officials of MHTS, the American  cyclists will leave
for Lashio by air on 6 January and then proceed to Muse by car on 7 January.
The cyclists will ride along Muse-Lashio-Kyaukme-PyinOoLwin-Mandalay-Meiktila-
Kalaw-Bagan-Magway-Pyay-Thayawady-Yangon route.  They  will  leave  Muse  on 9
January  and  arrive  back  Yangon  23 January. The cyclists will leave Yangon
by air on 25 January.

(4)		National Convention Convening Commission Meets

		National Convention Convening Commission held a meeting at the meeting hall
of NCCC on 6 January. National Convention Convening  Work Committee and
National Convention Convening Management Committee reported on the National
Convention matters. Members of the National Convention Convening Commission
took part in the discussions.
