(1)		Secretary-1 Attends Opening Ceremony of Ayeyeikmon Housing Project Phase
III
		A ceremony to open Ayeyeikmon Housing Project Phase III of Hline Township
jointly undertaken by Department of Human Settlement and Housing Development
and Yuzana Construction Group, and to open and hand over new school buildings
of Basic Education primary School No 14 and Basic Education primary School No
29 of Hline Township was held at Ayeyeikmon Housing Project in Hline Township.
Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt
attended the ceremony. The Human Settlement and Housing Development Department
under the Ministry of Construction is establishing housing estates,
implementing hut-to-apartment schemes, making arrangements to improve the
conditions of wards and setting up industrial zones and cities. Public Works
and DHSHD are jointly carrying out these tasks, thereby implementing
political, economic and social objectives of the State. After building
Bayintnaung Road in 1993, Ayeyeikmon Housing Project Phase I was implemented
in Ward-4, Hline Township, which included 11 four-story buildings with 272
apartments. Some original land owners were resettled at the apartments.
According to the wishes of some households, arrangements were made to resettle
them at the new townships. While that project was being implemented, fires
broke out in Wards 4 and 5 of Hline Township. Eleven four-storey buildings
with 280 apartments were built there, and original land owners were resettled
at the apartments and in new townships according to their wishes. Yuzana
Construction Group implemented Ayeyeikmon Housing Project Phase III under the
supervision of DHSHD. The project occupied 27 acres of land. Out of 410
original households, 205 were resettled at the apartments, and 195 were
resettled in the new townships according to their wishes. Afterwards, Chairman
of Yuzana explained matters related to Ayeyeikmon Housing Project and basic
education schools to be built on the area of the project. Then, Chairman of
Yuzana Construction handed over documents pertaining to apartments of
Ayeyeikmon Housing Project to Director-General of Department of Human
Settlement and Housing Development and handed over documents related to the
new building of BEPS No 14 of Hline Township to Director-General of Basic
Education Department No 3. Director-General of DHSHD handed over documents
related to the land of the school to Director-General of B.E.D No.3. Later,
Director-General of DHSHD and Chairman of Yuzana Construction handed over
documents related to the new building of BEPS No 29 to Director-General of BED
No 3. Afterwards, Director-General of DHSHD handed over documents related to
the land of the school to Director-General BED No.3. The Secretary-1 and party
inspected apartments of Ayeyeikmon Housing Project Phase III and the new
building of BEPS No 14 and the new building of BEPS No 29. BEPS No. 14, 110
feet long and 30 feet wide, is a two-storey reinforced concrete building
constructed on 0.335 acre of land of Ayeyeikmon Housing Project at a cost of K
16.483 millions by Yuzana Construction Group. BEPS No 29, 110 feet long and 30
feet wide, is a two-storey reinforced concrete building constructed on 0.5
acre of land of Ayeyeikmon Housing Project at a cost of K 17.226 millions by
Yuzana Construction Group.
(2)		Secretary-1 Receives Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal
		Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt
received Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal Mr. Murari Raj
Sharma and party who called at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence on 5
January.
(3)		Myanmar Educational Intranet Seminar Held 
		Myanmar Educational Intranet Seminar sponsored by Eagle Group of Companies
under the arrangement of the Ministry of Education was ;held at the Yangon
University Diamond Jubilee Hall on 5 January. Deputy Minister for Education
made a speech. Managing Director of Eagle Group of Companies presented 12
scholarship awards to outstanding students of universities and colleges
through Minister for Education.
(4)		Myanmar Today 
		"Myanmar Today" Volume 1 No 3 published in Myanmar and English has come out.
It was compiled by Information and Public Relations Department, printed by
Printing and Publishing Enterprise and distributed every four months by the
Ministry of Information.
(5)		Amphetamine Tablets, Arms, Ammunition, Cash Seized in Tachilek
		Amphetamine tablets, arms, ammunition and cash were seized in Meileikpakaw
(Lower) and Meileikpakaw (Upper) villages in Mongko village-tract, Tachilek,
Shan State (East) on 5 December 1998. A combined force of members of Defence
Services Intelligence, Tatmadawmen (Armed Forces) and members of Myanmar
Police Force searched the house of Phihsa @Soe Win in Meileikpakaw (Lower)
village and found 108,000 amphetamine tablets, one M-16 automatic rifle and
ammunition, baht 68,930, goldware weighing over 20 ticals, nine cars and one
motorcycle. In Meileikpakaw (Upper) village, they searched the house of Yaku
Hsam, and found 166,000 amphetamine tablets, one .45 pistol and ammunition,
one rifle and auumnition, baht 6,680, yuan 281, K 68,250, goldware weighing
over nine ticals, one car and two motorcycles. Police of Tachilek booked the
culprits and impounded the drug, cash and related property.
(6)		Minister Meets Leader of Tohoku Kodai High School Karate-do Team
		Minister for Sports met leader of Tohoku Kodai High School Karate-do Team
Mr. Akihiro Sakai and three members of Japan who called at his office on 5
January. They discussed mutual cooperation in Karatedo event. The minister,
guests and officials attended demonstration of Tohoku Kodai High School
Karate-do team and Myanmar athletes at the National Indoor Stadium 1 in
Thuwunna. President of MKF made a speech.  Mr. Akihiro Sakai also gave a
speech and presented a digital score board to MKF. Japanese Karate-do Coach
Mr. Mori Yutaka demonstrated on single Kata event. Myanmar and Japan athletes
competed single and team Kata events.

(7)		Third International Eye Specialists Conference Begins
		Third International Eye Specialists Conference was opened at Yangon Eye,
Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital on 5 January. Professor of EENT hospital and Eye
Specialist Dr. Robert Riteh made a speech. The conference will continue on 6
January.
