The follow-up of the farmer strike in Shan State
According to the information following the recent farmer strike, the SPDC
authority has
arrested two farmers with accusation of instigation. On December 24, 1998,
about 150 farmers marched to Lin Khay town, in Shan State, and demanded to
decrease the amount of rice the authority force them to sell in lower price.
According to the information from Lin Khay, Sai Ba Thein and Sai Ohum, farmers
at Phon Hton village, were charged under Act 505 (F) and confined in Lin Khay
police station.
