Democratic Forces and Nationalities Agree on the National Solidarity to Burma

15th December 1998

The Seminar on the National Solidarity in which 23 opposition groups
including ethnic nationalities participated was successfully held from 12th
December to 14th December 1998 at Thu-Mwe-Kalo in Kawthoolei near
Thai-Burma border.

During the seminar, representatives from various political organizations
and armed forces against the military regime in Burma frankly and
constructively discussed on the present political situation in Burma.

In this seminar, all participants agreed on 13 points including the anti
military dictatorship, multi-party democratic system, the establishing
federal union and the support to the convening people's parliament and the
committee representing people's parliament by the National League for
Democracy (NLD) and ethnic nationalities parties.

Among 23 organizations, the Communist Party of Burma (CPB) also
participated in this seminar.

At the end of this seminar, they signed the 13 points-agreement named as
the Thu-Mwe-Kalo Agreement to reach the national solidarity in Burma.

In January 1997, 15 ethnic nationality groups including some cease-fired
ethnic armed forces also signed the Mae-Tha-Raw-Htar Agreement.
