(1)  General Maung Aye receives PRC Military, Naval and Air Attaches

YANGON, 3 Dec -- Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council
Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army)
General Maung Aye received Military, Naval and Air Attache Senior Colonel He
Yaokui who has completed his tour of duty and his successor Senior Colonel Ma
Shoudong from People's Republic of China at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of
Defence at 8.30 am today.

    Present on the occasion together with General Maung Aye were Secretary-1
of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of the Office of Strategic
Studies and Director of Defence Services Intelligence Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt,
Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of
Bureau of Special Operations and Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo,
Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Rear Admiral Nyunt Thein and Commander-in-Chief
(Air) Maj-Gen Kyaw Than.

(2)  MEC Chairman views book exhibition in commemoration of the 78th
Anniversary Founding Day of YU

YANGON, 3 Dec-Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State
Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt viewed the book exhibition
held in commemoration of the 78th Anniversary Founding Day of Yangon
University at the Recreation Centre this afternoon.

    On arrival at the exhibition at 1 pm, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt,
accompanied by officials of the Office of the State Peace and Development
Council, was welcomed by Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein, Minister for
Education U Than Aung, Deputy Minister for Education Brig-Gen Soe Win Maung,
Director-General of Higher Education Department U Myo Nyunt, rectors of
universities, ProRector of Yangon University Dr Soe Yin and officials, members
of the organizing committee for the book exhibition in commemoration of the
78th Anniversary Founding Day of YU, professors, lecturers, faculty members
and students.

    Secretary- 1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt viewed the books of various department,
research journals, documentary research photos, reference books, documentary
photos of YU various Department Associations, Sports Association, Arts and
Culture Association, Red Cross Society, Yangon University Buddhist
Association,Library Association and Hiking and Mountaineering Association.

    Officials conducted the Secretary-1 round the exhibition.

    The Secretary-1 left there in the afternoon.

(3)  Secretary-1 receives Adviser to People's Government of Yunnan Province of
PRC

YANGON, 3 Dec - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen
Khin Nyunt received Adviser to the People's Government of Yunnan Province Mr
Linghu An and party who called at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence at
4 pm today.
    Present on the occasion together with Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt were
Minister at the Office of Chairman of State Peace and Development Council
Brig-Gen Abel, Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing, Minister for Progress
of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt,
Minister for Electric Power Maj-Gen Tin Htut, Minister for Foreign Affairs U
Win Aung, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win, Deputy
Minister for Commerce Commodore Myo Tint and Director-General of Protocol
Department Thura U Aung Htet.

The guests here accompanied by Ambassador of the People's Republic of China Mr

YANGON, 3 Dec - The International Day of the Disabled was observed at the
International Business Centre on Pyay Road today with an address by
Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, who
also gave away prizes to the winners in the Day's commemorative competitions.

    Also present were Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing, Minister for
Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung, Minister for Progress of Border Areas and
National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt, Minister for Social
Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, Minister for Energy Brig-
Gen Lun Thi, Minister for Education U Than Aung, Minister for Sports Brig-Gen
Sein Win, Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein, Minister for Labour Maj-Gen
Tin Ngwe, deputy ministers, departmental heads, officials of NGOs, resident
representatives of UN agencies, donors, prize winners and their Parents, and
guests.

(5)  Thailand Exhibition '98 opens

YANGON, 3 Dec-Thailand Exhibition '98, held under the Myanmar-Thai economic
cooperation promotion programme and with the permission of the Ministry of
Commerce, opened at Tatmadaw Convention Centre on U Wisara Road this morning,
attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin
Oo.

    Organized by Department of Export Promotion and Ministry of Commerce of
Royal Thai Government and with the support of TTF (Yangon) Co Ltd, the
inauguration ceremony was addressed by Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw
Than.
The minister said:

    At the very outset, I would like to extend my warmest welcome to all the
Thai exhibitors to Myanmar. This exhibition has become more gracious with the
presence of His Excellency Dr Pravich Ratanapian, Deputy Minister for
Commerce, the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand. I wish all of you a very
pleasant stay in our country.
    I deem it an honour and a great pleasure to get the privilege of making a
brief statement on the occasion of the inauguration of Thailand Exhibition
'98. As I understand this exhibition is organized by the Department of Export
Promotion of the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand in collaboration with the
Board of Trade, Thai Chamber of Commerce and the Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon.
This is also the first Thai products exhibition in Myanmar.

Also present were Ministers at State Peace and Development Council Chairman's
Office Brig-Gen Abel and Brig-Gen Maung Maung, Minister for Cooperatives U
Aung San, Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung, Minister for Hotels and
Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe,
Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein, Minister for
Energy Brig-Gen Lun Thi, Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung, deputy
ministers, General Chetta Thanajaro (Retired) of Thailand, Ambassador of
Thailand Mr Pensak Chalarak, ambassadors and military attaches of foreign
missions, senior military officers of the Ministry of Defence, heads of
department, President of Thai Chamber of Commerce and Industry and President
of Trade Board of Thailand Mr Vichien Tejapaibul, reprcsentatives of companies
of Thailand, officials, local and foreign Journalists and guests.

    The Secretary- 2 and party visited the booths there.
    Dr Pravich met the Press.

    Ninety-three companies of Thailand are presenting auto parts manufactured
in Thailand, social goods, costumes, medicines, foodstuff, construction
equipment, paints, stationery, oil drilling equipment, fishing nets, farm
machinery, rubber goods, chemicals, cosmetics, electronic apparatus,
furniture, water purificators, other goods and trade services.

    The exhibition opens daily from 10 am to 5 pm till 6 December.

(6)  Minister meets foreign businessmen

YANGON, 3 Dec- Minister for Finance and Revenue U Khin Maung Thein met
Managing Director Mr Erhard Ebel of Siemens Company of Germany who called at
his
office at 2 pm today.

    Similarly, the minister met General Manager Mr Gerhard Loos and party of
Dresdner Bank of Germany at 3 pm today.

    They discussed cooperation for mutual interest.

    Present also at the calls were Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Than Tun and
Governor of the Central Bank of Myanmar U Kyaw Kyaw Maung.

(7)  MIC Secretary receives Thai Deputy Minister

YANGON, 3 Dec-Minister at the Office of Chairman of the State Peace and
Development Council Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission Brig-Gen Maung
Maung receives Deputy Minister of Commerce of Thailand Dr Pravich Ratanapian
and party, accompanied by Ambassador of Thailand Mr Pensak Chalarak, who
called at the MIC Office at 4 pm today.

    Present at the call were officials of the Directorate of Investment and
Companies Administration.

    The Thai deputy minister and party were accompanied by Thai entrepreneurs
led by the chairman of Boards of Trade of Thailand.

Subject: Permission given to U Saw Shwe to resign as Pyithu Hluttaw
representative-elect from Mahlaing Township Constituency 1 in Mandalay
Division

1. U Saw Shwe of the National League for Democracy, Pyithu Hluttaw
representative elected at the Multiparty Democracy General Election from
Mahlaing Township Constituency 1 in Mandalay Division, submitted of his own
volition to this Commission that he be permitted to resign because of his
health.

2. Upon the above-mentioned submission, this Commission hereby announces that
U Saw Shwe has been permitted to resign from being Hluttaw representative
elect of Mahlaing Constituency 1 effective today under Section 11 (e) of the
Pyithu Hluttaw Election Law.

Subject: Permission given to Dr Ye Myint to resign as Pyithu Hhlttaw
representative-elect from Kyangin Township Constituency in Ayeyawady Division

1. Dr Ye Myint of the National League for Democracy, Pyithu  Hluttaw
representative elected at the Multiparty Democracy General Election from
Kyangin Township Constituency in Ayeyawady Division, submitted of his own
volition to this Commission that he be permitted, to resign because of his old
age and health.

2. Upon the above-mentioned submission, this Commission hereby announces that
Dr Ye Myint has been permitted to resign from being Hluttaw representative
elect of Kyangin Constituency effective today under Sect.ion 11 (e) of the
Pyithu Hluttaw Election Law.

(9)  More NLD members resign


YANGON, 3 Dec-Ten members of National League for Democracy of Pwintbyu
Township, Magway Division, resigned from the party on 30 November 1998.

    They are: U Nyunt Sein, U Than Htay, U Thein Aung Gyi, Maung Kyaw Kyaw
Aung, Daw Mya Yi, Daw Tin Tin Aung, Maung Nanda Aung, Daw Tin San, U Maung Cho
and U Maung Aung.

    They notified Pwintbyu Township Multi-party Democracy General Election
Commission Office, Magway Division, and the respective party chairman saying
that they had resigned from the party out of their own volition since they had
no desire to carry out political activities of NLD.

(10) Kyunhla Township NLD dissolved

YANGON, 3 Dec-The Executive Committee members and all members of Kyunhla
Township National League for Democracy, Sagaing Division, tendered their
resignations and dissolved the Township NLD out of their own volition on 27
November 1998.

    Kyunhla Township NLD was first formed with 15 EC members but 10 EC members
were left. Now all EC members of the Township NLD resigned from the party
membership out of their own volition since they no longer wish to continue to
take part in NLD's political activities. On 27 November, they notified the
office of Kyunhla Township Multi-party Democracy General Election Commission
and the chairman of the party concerned.
