Dalai Lama and China May Be
Ready to Talk
AP
07-NOV-98
(Charlottesville, Virginia)-- Things may be improving
between the Dalai Lama
and China.
During a conference at the University of Virginia, Tibet's
spiritual leader revealed
he may soon make an important statement. It could open talks
between Tibet
and the Beijing government.
China is demanding the Dalai Lama acknowledge Tibet is an
inseparable part of
the Communist nation, and that Taiwan is a province.
Aides to the Dalai Lama say he's drafting a statement that
might satisfy those
demands.
