	<P>  YANGON (Oct. 22) XINHUA - The Myanmar authorities seized a total
of 2,143 kilograms (kg) of narcotic drugs, including 25.21 kg of heroin
and 342.81 kg of opium, in September, official newspaper The New Light
of Myanmar reported Thursday.

	<P> Army units, police and the customs also seized three liters of
phensedyl, 37.42 kg of marijuana and 2.11 million tablets of stimulant
drug.

	<P> During the month, the authorities took action against 366 persons
including 313 men and 53 women involved in 251 drug-related cases, the
report said.

	<P> According to official statistics, in the first six months of this year,
Myanmar seized a total of 4,927 kg of narcotics including 219 kg of
heroin and 4,471 kg of opium, destroying 15 heroin refineries and over
8,000 hectares of poppy plantations and taking action against 2,300
people in drug-related cases.

	<P> The Myanmar authorities also confiscated nearly 9 million stimulant
drug tablets in the first nine month of this year.

	<P> Meanwhile, Myanmar claimed in a report issued last week by the Office
of Strategic Studies of the Defense Ministry that it has prevented 45
billion U.S. dollars worth of heroin from reaching the streets of the
United States since 1988 despite U.S. cut in assistance to the country.
