(1)		Masses of Kayah State Denounce National Leagues for Democracy's  Moves to
Jeopardise Peace, Stability and  Progress 

		Over 18,000 people from various strata of life from Kayah State expressed
their genuine desire at a mass meeting which was held on Kandahaywun Square in
Loikaw Township on 17 October.  Present were Kayah State Peace Negotiators
Group, Maternal and Child Welfare Association, Working Committee for Women's
Affairs, members of Union Solidarity and Development Association, Kayah
national cultural troupe, Women's Sports Federation, Medical Association,
Lawyers Association, Merchants Association, Writers and Journalists
Association, Video Association, Thabin Asiayon, Traditional Artists and
Artisans Asiayon, Nurses Association, Saw Millers Association, Rice Millers
Association, Edible Oil Dealers Association, All Bus Lines Control Committee,
Industrialists Association, Red Cross Society, Auxiliary Fire Brigade,
representatives of Social and Economic Associations and people of  Loikaw
District and Loikaw Township.  At the meeting speakers tabled and seconded two
motions calling for safeguarding and maintaining economic development and
better conditions of food, clothing and shelter needs of the people and
maintaining and safeguarding stability of the State which has already been
achieved.

(2)		277 Gem Merchants Arrive

		Altogether 171 gem merchants of 107 companies from ten countries and 106
national gem merchants of 48 local companies arrived Yangon on 17 October.
They inspected the Mid-year Myanma Gems Emporium from 9 am to 5 pm. They will
inspect the lots shown at Mid-year Myanma Gems Emporium on 19 October.

(3)		Myanmar Delegation Leaves for Japan

		With the aim of Promoting mutual cooperation in business enterprise between
Japan and Myanmar entrepreneurs and exporting Myanmar products to Japan, a
35-member Myanmar delegation left for Japan by air on 17 October to attend the
Global Business Opportunity Convention 1998 (GBOC 98) in Osaka from 19 to 21
October under the sponsorship of Osaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry and
Union of Myanmar Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

(4)		Myanmar Buddhist Missionary Team Returns from Seoul

		Myanmar Buddhist missionary team led by Chairman of the State Sangha(Monk)
Maha Nayaka Committee Abbidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Abbidhaja Agga Maha
Saddhamma-jotika Bhaddanta Sobhita arrived back Yangon by air from Seoul,
Republic of Korea, on 17 October.  The missionary team arrived Seoul via
Bangkok on 10 October.  The Sayadaws attended the inauguration ceremony of
Kuan Moon-Sa Temple in Seoul on 11 October.  Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sobhita
formally opened the temple.  The altar on the fourth floor of the temple
enshrines the Stone Buddha donated by Myanmar and over 3,300 Buddha statues.
The Sayadaws later planted a commemorative tree together with the delegation
members of other countries.  They toured Che Ju island, Fusan and Sam Kuan Sa
Temple on 11 and 12 October.

(5)		Thaton Township gets Digital  Auto-telephone Exchange

		The opening ceremony of digital electronic auto-telephone exchange of Myanma
Posts and Telecommunications was held in Thaton Township, in Kayin State  on
16 October.  Minister for Com-munications, Posts and Telegraphs  formally
opened the new auto exchange.
