( Malaysia's PM cancels trip to Indonesia)

JAKARTA, Oct 12 (Reuters) - Malaysia's Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has
cancelled a planned visit to Indonesia in November where he was due to
address the Indonesia Forum, the
forum said on Monday.

The cancellation of Mahathir's trip follows Indonesian President B.J.
Habibie's decision not to visit
Malaysia later this month, saying that he was "too busy" with domestic
affairs.

In a statement issued by the forum, it said Mahathir's decision not to come
had resolved a "potentially sensitive issue."

Forum chairman Bondan Winarno said the group had earlier considered
whether Mahathir's presence would be an asset or liability following the
sacking of Malaysia's Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in September.

"The bigger issue is on Anwar Ibrahim, our bigger doubts would be whether
Dr
Mahathir's presence in Indonesia would be an asset or liability-- to us as
well as
to Dr Mahathir," he said.

The Indonesia Forum is a major corporate and investment event which
assembles top level
executives of major international organisations.
