Dear Mr. Chambers

Re: Appeal to abandon "Burma Tour Package"

First of all, may I want to introduce myself. I am one of the Burmese =
doctors residing in SA since 1991. There are many Burmese doctors who =
are contributing the public sector of health service in SA. I am an =
exile medical doctor, after the military regime crackdown the =
pro-democracy movement in 1988. (8-8-88 massacre)

The Burmese military junta is the one of the world=92s worst human =
rights violators. United Nation, Amnesty International and international =
community is condemning the various issue of human

rights violation, extensively to the ordinary citizens such as forced =
labour(tour spots are constructing with forced labour), torture =
brutally, extrajudicial killings, arbitrary detention, forced porterage, =
human mine sweepers, gang rapes at frontier areas etc.

The brutal military regime is using most of the income for the military =
upgrading. Universities are closed for +/- 7 years(altogether) in this =
decade. According to UNDP reports, the regime=92s military expenditure =
in 1990-91 was 222% as a percentage of Health and Education expenditure.

Almost, all your tour money will buy weapons and use for killing and =
oppressing to the citizens.

In fact, I am not a politician in my career but I have to involve in =
this campaign because of our Nobel cause. I am just considering as a =
humanitarian ground. I can understand as a business point of view, and =
it might be not acceptable for a boycott. I would like to appeal, =
earnestly as a Burmese people, please consider from humanitarian aspect.

PLEASE do not enjoy the money, which will get from "Burma Tour Package". =
Diner=92s Club International (SA) newsletter mentioned on Burma tour =
promotion as " At the end of the tour, it is not only wonderful memories =
of forest, monuments or mountains that you will carry home, but the =
warmth of the welcome and the gracious hospitality". BUT NOT NOW. It is =
absolutely true, IF YOU VISIT WHEN DEMOCRACY COMES. Now you can ONLY =
carry bloody smell of our people who were dying on the roads of Rangoon. =
As a human being, you should not enjoy the wonderful places of Burma, =
which are using "forced labour and forced allocation" to our ordinary =
citizens.

I would like to request you, "Burma is always there, at the corner of =
the South East Asia. Please come and enjoy our hospitality, fantastic =
Shwedagon Pagoda, beautiful Pagan (Bagan) and forest when democracy =
comes. Bloody roads are still wet, at present moment."=20

We do appreciate with all our hearts, for your kind consideration to =
abandon the "Burma Tour Package".

Please find the enclosed flyers, documents on Burma issue. If you want =
further information,

please do not hesitate to contact me. You can also obtain further =
information on the following

Internet Web=92s site.
