(1)		Cash Donated for Poor and Needy Patients of North Okkalapa General
Hospital

		A ceremony to donate cash for trust fund of poor and needy patients at North
Okkalapa General Hospital was held at the hospital on 12 September. It is the
fourth ceremony for the patients and it is a noble deed to save their lives.
The government has been building hospitals and dispensaries and more progress
will be made in health care service if the people participate in the
government's endeavours. Well-wishers set up trust funds for the poor
patients. More and more well-wishers donate cash for poor and needy patients
and it contributes towards the health of the patients.  There are enough
medical scientists, medical equipment and other basic medicines at the
hospitals and the patient will feel happy due to addition of potent medicines
and medical care by specialists after utilizing the donations.

(2)		Minister for Transport attends Fourth ASEAN Transport Ministers Meeting

		Minister for Transport arrived in Singapore to attend the Fourth ASEAN
Transport Ministers Meeting (ATM) on 8 September. General Manager Mr Eagame
Lee of Jardine Star Line Management Pte Ltd called on Minister and they
discussed mutual cooperation with Myanma Five Star Line. On 9 September, the
minister attended International Conference on Transportation into the next
millennium at Marina Mandrin Hotel and observed Electronic Road Pricing (ERP)
system for Automating Road Pricing at Central Expressway (CTE) Control Centre.
In his address, Minister spoke of endeavours for building of a peaceful,
modern developed nation after adapting of market-oriented economic system,
laying down strategies for objectives and priorities for Five Year Plan
(1996-97 to 2000-2001), contribution towards economic development in Myanmar
and measures undertaken as ASEAN member. ASEAN Transport Ministers signed
Agreement on the Recognition of Commercial Vehicles Inspection Certificates
for Goods and Public Services Vehicles issued by ASEAN member countries. The
communique of ASEAN Transport Ministers was released.  Transport Ministers
unanimously supported ASEAN Framework Agreement on the Facilitation of Goods
in Transit and the agreement is to be signed at the Sixth ASEAN Summit.  They
discussed solution to transport problem to be encountered by the year 2000 and
mutual assistance among members. The minister met Minister of Communications
of Singapore Mr Mah Bow Tan.

(3)		Myanmar Taekwando Team Arrives Back

		Myanmar taekwando team, which won a gold medal in World Youth Taekwando
Championship in Republic of Korea arrived back at Yangon International Airport
on 11 September. Ma Soe Soe Mya beat her rival-athletes and won the gold medal
in flyweight class of the championship which was taken part by over 20
countries.

(4)		IM-1 Holds 30th Convocation

		The 30th convocation of Institute of Medicine-1, Yangon, was held at Yangon
University Convocation Hall on 12 September. Rector Professor U Myo Myint
conferred diplomas and degrees on 26 postgraduates and 23 graduates.

		Secretary -1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt
received Executive Vice-President Mr Takashi Kawahara and party of Mitsui
Marine and Fire Insurance Co Ltd of Japan at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of
Defence .
