(1)		Development of Rural Areas, Basic Production Forces of Agro-based Economy
Stressed
		Special Refresher Course 4 for  officers  of Ministry for Progress of Border
Areas and  National Races and Development  Affairs  concluded at  Central
Institute  of Civil Services, Hlegu Township, addressed by Minister for
PBANRDA . Central Committee for Development of Border Areas and National
Races, the Work Committee, the ministry, subcommittees, regional work
committees and the department were formed in practically developing economy,
social conditions and transport of border areas, conserving traditions and
culture and literature of nationalities, further strengthening love and
friendship among nationalities, setting up business firms in eradicating poppy
cultivation in the areas and maintaining security  and peace  and  law  and
order  in  border  areas in accord with  the  objectives,  which  are,  non-
disintegration of the Union, non-disintegration of national solidarity and
perpetuation of sovereignty. The government has spent over K 9.51 billion for
border area development tasks to date, building roads, bridges, hospitals,
dispensaries, schools and youth development schools and setting up farms,
plantations, generators, TV retransmission stations and communication links in
the regions, consolidating the national unity to the highest degree since
independence was restored . The ministry has designated fiscal 1998-99 as the
year of roads and bridges, facilitating road links among villages and the
rural and the urban, markets easily.

(2)		Myanmar Delegation Back from Singapore
		A Myanmar delegation led by Minister for  Transport  arrived  back  Yangon
by air on 11 September attending the Fourth meeting of ASEAN Transport
Ministers in Singapore on 9 and 10 Septmber.

(3)		Seminar on Boosting Products of Ayeyawady Division
		Seminar on boosting products of Ayeyawady Division was held at  Pathein on
10 September. Officials and experts participated in discussions, giving
suggestions.  It is scheduled to put 322,300 acres under monsoon paddy and
141,100 under summer paddy .

OFFICE CALLS IN YANGON ON 11 SEPTEMBER

(A)		Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council  received Chairman
Mr Tadashi Sekizawa and party of Fujitsu Ltd of Japan at Dagon Yeiktha of the
Ministry of Defence.
(B)		Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission received Chairman of Fujitsu
Ltd  Mr Tadashi Sekizawa and party of Japan at his office. They discussed
completion of the projects carried out in Myanmar by Fujitsu.
(C)		Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs received Chairman Mr
Tadashi Sekizawa and party of Fujitsu Limited of Japan at his office.
Likewise, the minister received Vice-Chairman  Mr Ng Seng Sum and party of
Singapore Telecom, International Carrier Services.
(D)		Minister for National Planning and Economic Development received Chairman
Mr Tadashi Sekizawa and party of Fujitsu Ltd of Japan at his office.
