INFORMATION SHEET No.A.0588(I) (r)

To the Myanmar Information Committee,

I read about Senior General Than Shwe's
speech. He said" As our country
>will be adopting a genuine multiparty
democratic system, an enduring
>constitution is indispensable to
provide correct leadership of the
nation.
>For an enduring constitution to come
into fruition, stability and the
>prevalence of law and order is of
paramount importance. That is the
reason
>why consolidation of the already
achieved stability of the state and
community
>peace and tranquillity is being carried
out, he said. Finally he pointed out
>that we are working hand-in-hand with
the entire people of Myanmar to realize
>a new modern developed nation in accord
with the emerging new and firm State
>Constitution".

I remember that Lt. Gen. Myo Nyunt was
the Chairman of the National Convention,
which is supposed to collect data for a
Union constitution. I also heard that he
is in jail now. What are the
inter-connections between the
constitution and Gen. Myo Nyunt. If he
is actually in jail the idea of the
National Convention, he lead, goes to
jail also?

Sincerely,

Vum Son
