YANGON, 28 Aug - The Special Refresher Course No 32 for Basic Education
Teachers
concluded at the   Central Institute of Civil Service in Hlegu Township
today with an address by  
Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and
 Development
Counci1  Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

Also present at the concluding ceremony were Minister for Industrial-2

Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw Than, Minister for Construction Maj-Gen

ministers member and Chairman of Civil service Selection and Training Board

 Secretary-1 attends opening ceremony of 1998 World Ranking Asian Archery
                      Circuit First Round Competition




YANGON, 28 Aug - A ceremony to open the 1998 World Ranking Asia Archery
Circuit First
Round Competition held with the objectives - to enable visitors to see the
development and peace
and tranquillity of Myanmar by hosting International sports competitions,
to enhance the dignity of
the nation by hosting. such competitions as a member of the International
Archery Federation and
the Asian Archery Federation, to strive to uplift. the sports standard of
Myanmar with the
experience gained from hosting international sports competitions, to
enhance friendship among
atheletes and further strengthen friendly ties among nations, to stimulate
the youth to take more
interest in sports and to enable them to be Familiar with sports
activities, thereby contributing to
nation -building endeavours, to be able to maintain the standard of Myanmar
Archery sport which
has already gathered momentum at South-East Asian level and to contribute
to efforts for enabling
Myanmar archery sport to reach Asian level-took place at the National
Indoor Stadium-1,
Thuwunna, Thingangyun Township, at 8.00 am today, attended by Patron of
Committee for
Organizing the 1998 World Ranking Asia Archery Circuit First Round
Competition Chairman of
Myanmar National Olympic Council Secretary- 1 of the State Peace and
Development Council
Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

Present also were Secretary-3 of the State. Peace and Development. Council
Lt-Gen Win Myint,
member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon
Division Peace and
Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, ministers, Mayor of

     LG Information and Communications demonstrates CDMA system




YANGON, 28 Aug- LG Information and Communications Ltd of Republic of Korea
demonstrated their CDMA telephone, CDMA cellular telephone and network
system of CDMA at
Communications and Postal Training Centre, Myanma Posts and
Telecommunications this
afternoon.

Present were Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Win
Tin, officials of the
Office of Director of Signals of the Ministry of Defence, general manager,
deputy general managers,
chief engineers of Myanma Posts and Telecommunications and guests.

          Deputy Prime Minister receives Ambassador of Malaysia




YANGON, 28 Aug- A ceremony to donate US $1,000 for flood relief in Republic
of Korea by
the MMCWA was held at the ROK Embassy on University Avenue this morning.
Vice-Chairperson of the MMCWA Dr Khin Win Shwe presented US $ 1,000.

Ambassador of ROK Mr Kyong Bo Choi accepted the donation and presented a
certificate of
honour to her.

On 24 August, Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association donated US $
1,000 for flood
relief in the People's Republic of China at the PRC Embassy on Pyidaungsu
Avenue.

Vice-Chairperson of MMCWA Dr Khin Win Shwe presented US $ 1,000 to Charge
d'Affaires ai
the PRC Embassy Mr Yu Tiegen who presented a certificate of honour to her.

                     MWJA holds Coord Meeting 2/98

YANGON, 28 Aug--- The Central Executive Commit-tee of Myanmar Writers and
Journalists
Association held its coordination meeting 2/98 at the Office of the MWJA at
1 pm today.

Present were Chairman of the association U Kyaw Aung (Kyaw Aung) and
Central Executive
Committee members.

Before the meeting, officials provided K 10,000 each to ailing scholars U
Chit Hla Sein  (Dagon

Nwekathit) of Kyauktada, U Them Aung (Bo Them Aung) of Kyauktada, U Khin
Aung Lin of
Dagon Myothit (North) and Thamein Thaung of Kyimyindaing.

Then, publisher of Thadinhiwa journal Dr Tin Tun Oo of Thuta Sweson
Sarpaytaik presented

K 75,000 and U San Tin Aung (Shwebo San Tin Aung) K 10,000 toward the fund
of the
association.

The meeting the records of CEC Meeting 1/98 and decided to organization,
finance, publishing
fund-raising, welfare, supervisory for printing press, international
relations, auditing and publishing of
magazine.

                  Development impossible without stability

YANGON, 28 Aug -Development cannot be established without national
stability and community
peace, which is a vital requirement for the nation, said Deputy Minister
for In-formation U Them
Sein in Dagon Myothit North Township today.

U Them Sein, Central Executive Committee member of Union Solidarity and

Development Association, was speaking at a refresher course for ward
organizers of the Township
USDA.

Correct and successful solving of all political, economic and social
problems depends on national
peace and stability, he added, indicating the firm evidence of the past and
present incidents in
supporting his advice.

        Special train for Paungde Myatswedaw festival

YANGON, 28 Aug- The 98th festival of Paungde Myatswedaw will be held there
from 2 to 6
September.

Myanma Railways will run a special train between Letpadan and Pyay sections
from 31 August to 7
September to ensure smooth transportation during the festival.

The train will leave letpadan Station at 4.40 am daily and arrive at Pyay
Station at 10.40 am. It will
return from Pyay at 2.50 pm and reach letpadan at 8.45 pm. The arrangement
is valid till 7
September.

                           Missing Fokker found

YANGON, 28 Aug- The missing Fokker F-27 aircraft, XY-AEN of Myanma
Air-ways, was
found by troops of the Tatmadaw in a thick forest with bamboo groves in a
ravine of the ridge of
Loiyuan mountain range, about 10 miles north-east of Tachilek, about 9 pm
yesterday.

It is learnt that it seems probable that all on board the plane were not
alive, and the plane crashed in
the forest after running into the hill due to bad weather when it was
trying to land.

Minister for Transport Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe left here today for Tachilek by
special flight and then
proceeded to the site together with Member of the State Peace and
Development Council
Chairman of Shan State (East) Peace and Development Council Commander
Maj-Gen Them Sein
and Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Kyaw Myint.

The minister and officials are inspecting the site and making necessary
arrangements.

A special board of inquiry will look into the crash.

          Globe-girdling aviator recounts experience

YANGON, 28 Aug -Thomas Claytor, an American who is trying to fly round the
world in a
small plane met reporters and recounted his experience at the Strand Hotel
this after-noon.

He said he set out from America to fly round the world in a Cessana-180 on
2 December 1990 and
is trying to be recorded in the Guinness Book of Records.

He added he will recount his experience when he arrives back home.

He said he arrived Yangon via Dhaka, Bangladesh, at 4.30 pm on 27 August
and as soon as he
arrived Myanmar, he had a complete peace of mind and he felt confident on
seeing smiling
Myanmar people.

He noted that he also found Yangon clean and beautiful and girdled in an
atmosphere of peace and
pleasantness.

He added he is now 35 and expressed his thanks for having the opportunity
to recount his
experience

He then replied. to queries raised by reporters.
