(1)		Integrated Management of Maternal and Childhood Illness (IMMCI)  Strategy
Explained

		A ceremony to explain Integrated Management of Maternal and Childhood
Illness  (IMMCI) strategy to officials of Minstries related to the Ministry of
Health and NGOs, sponsored by the Ministry of Health, was held in the meeting
hall of  Medical Research Department on 25 August.

(2)		MPE, Thai Company to Jointly Conduct Pearl Culture
		Myanma Pearl Enterprise and Myanmar Andaman Pearl Co. Ltd. of Thailand have
agreed to jointly conduct oyster breeding and pearl culture at St. Luke?s
Island in Taninthayi Division on production sharing basis.  Ministry for Mines
has successfully implemented many production sharing contracts  in mineral and
gems sectors and  today?s signing has opened a new front in Myanmar pearl
culture in line with the market-oriented economy.

(3)		National Soccer Team Leaves for Vietnam

		Myanmar  national  soccer  team  left Yangon by air for Vietnam on 25 August
to take part in Second AFF Tiger Cup 98. 

                              OFFICE CALLS IN YANGON ON 25 AUGUST

(A)		Minister for Industry-1 received a five-member multi-disciplinary
delegation led by Director of Project and Equipment Corporation of India (PEC)
Mr. MK Vinayak, at his office.

(B)		Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement received Country
Manager of Myanmar Hwa Fun International Ltd. Mr. Lewis Leung and party at his
office.

(C)		Minister for Science and Technology received an eight-member 
multi-disciplinary delegation led by Project and Equipment Corporation of
India Ltd. (PEC) at his office.

(D)		Minister at the Office of the State Peace and Development Council
Chairman Brig-Gen Abel received visiting Japanese study mission led by
Director Professor Seki Tomoda of Research Institute for Peace and Security
(RIPS) of Tokyo at his office.  They cordially discussed progress of Myanmar
economic and prospect,  Myanmar?s endeavours for AFTA after participating  in
ASEAN, programmes to reduce Custom rates and cooperation of ASEAN member
countries in peace and tranquillity in South-East Asian region.
